I don't want bulk.

I'm a drummer who likes to run. I also like going to the gym. Unfortunately, my body seems to bulk up too easily. After about three months at the gym, drumming and running become uncomfortable, so I stop working out. When I don't work out, I get very skinny. It doesn't matter how much I eat, I just lose weight. When I start feeling self conscious about my looks, I go back to the gym.

This story has been repeating about two years. I asked the personal trainer and he said I should try low weight and high reps, but I still started bulking up. I then went to the doctor, just to make sure everything was ok, and everything was. Oh, except for low blood pressure. I've also tried going veg while working out (under the supervision of a nutritionist), and while that did work, I'm sure there must be a better way. I love meat.

Anyway, I was wondering if you guys new of good exercises that didn't use any weights. I want to try exercises that use my own weight as resistance, but I want to do them without crappy techno music in the background. I mean, I don't want to sign up for an aerobics class. Also, I wanted to ask if any of you had the same problem of bulking too quickly, and what you did to stop it.

Thanks!

Yes, I also do. I have very little upper body fat, so when I started working out, it went right to muscle.

And since the style of shirts is cut kind of tight, I am having a little problem getting summer stuff that's not too tight around the upper arm.

I do workout videos, and I use 10 lb weights, and don't plan on increasing the weight (or reps) dramatically. This way, I don't think I'll bulk up any more than I have already.

..I wish I had this problem. Couldn't you just go to the gym, but not as often as you did when you started to gain to much weight. Like if you went 4 times a week, and got 'too bulky', you could go just go twice a week.

Keep your calories at your Metabolic Rate or 500 less than that, and like the trainer said, keep low weights, high reps (20-25)... Especially for a drummer, you need that endurance.... Also, make sure you're stretching prior and after your workouts

Lunges, Squats, Push-Ups, Single Leg Squats, Burpies, Jump Squats, Jump Lunges, Body Rows, Russian Twists, Butt Kicks, Cobras, Iso-Abs, Dips, Planks, Bounding, Box Jumps, Calve Raises, etc.... (just a few off the top of my head  )
