Hello all,
Brand new to this forum and after reading through some posts, I feel good about joining. Everyone seems very helpful and positive. :D

I've tried to lose weight for the last 15 years.

Had some success but found sticking to various diets just doesn't work, as we all well know.

Problem is, I don't know what DOES work anymore!

Low fat, low carb, natural foods, meat, no meat, you get the gist. Argh.

I did lose some on low carb, but missed bread so much I fell off the bandwagon after a year and gained everything back and then some.

I feel like I'm on weight loss info overload. I realize that everyone is different, but where do I begin?

Any suggestions?

Thank's so much.

Welcome to the forum!! Best suggestion is to learn what a portion size is, drink lots of water, find an exercise that you enjoy and stick with it, figure out how many calories you need each day, set some goals with deadlines and remember that this is a lifestyle change - not a diet.

< this website has some great tools to get you started on everything I mentioned above.

It's a little overwhelming at first, but remember you can do it!! :D:D:D

Hi Pequin,

Thanks so much for your soothing words.

Ahhhhhh (that's me taking a deep breath)

I'll go and check out your link right now.

And you're right, I CAN do this. :D

Welcome breezie. :)

I know what you mean about all the different diet plans... it's mad! Theres actually a section on this forum for all the different plans so if it helps maybe you can take a look and see how people find each different plan.

Personally I have also tried to diet on and off for years, and now I have given up trying to follow a plan somebody else has designed -I dont stick to them, my diet needs to fit my hectic lifestyle and fussy taste. So I just cut out all fats and as much sugar as I possibly can, control my portions (this is still a downfall for me I think!) and excercise. A LOT.

Anyway good luck with whatever you decide to follow. :)

Hmmm, I think it's about working out what works for your life and then adapt it. Maybe don't think of it as a diet, but as a way of life. I know this is how I am approaching the whole thing.

Good luck with it!

Cheers

Hey welcome!
I'm with Miss K! You can't think of it as a diet because diets end and then yeah you get back to where you started! Whenever anyone talks about my 'diet' I make it very clear that it isn't a diet, and that I am trying to change my life...
When I started doing this in August, I totally resented the idea that I might have to work out for the rest of my life, but now it just doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Once I get where I want to in regards to my weight, I can bring my workouts down to about three times a week to maintain. That's not soo bad.
Enjoy the forum!

Yea, i know how you feel.

Loosing weight comes down to cals in vs cals out. Its that simple. Eat less, move more and the weight will come off! I promise! Start out by making little changes, maybe having a healthier breakfast. Then after you feel like that is good, start working on healthier snacks, or switch to diet pop...ect.

Small changes will add up to big results!!

Good luck hun, we are here for you!

hey there breezy , welcome to the site, it rocks.......what ever you decide is what will work best.......make sure you choose something that you can live with, I also tryed the Atkins thing for a while, no bread is torture and how healthy can it be to eat a pound of bacon but avoid the carrots??? (duh what were we thinking???) any how keep on posting and have fun with your new life style choices after all this should be fun and exciting:rolleyes: , not horridd and torturous:eek: !!!! Later dude .......STAR

Hi breezie - welcome to the boards! I don't think that you have had an imformation overload so much as a bad information overload. Everyone needs carbs and fats - they can even aid weight loss, and certainly maintain good health! There are good carbs and well... unsuitable carbs, there are very good fats, and quite bad fats. Sorry, information overload!! ;)

Wishing you lots of success :)

Hi Breezie and Welcome

Boy do I know how you feel!!! I lost most of my weight 40 pounds with low carb and exercise but really missed my carbs and now that I am eating them again I am having trouble and have gained back 10 of the 40 and I am petrified I will gain all the weight after I worked soooooo hard to get it off.

I am going to try counting calories again and stay away from anything that looks like a fad. There is always a new diet around the corner that promises but doesn't deliver.

I see you are a fellow BCer. I am from the Shuswap. I really like this forum, the people are very friendly and caring and there is a lot of really good advice. I think you have come to the right place.

Best of luck to you Monicka :)

I can relate well to that -"a lifestyle change" makes it sound like this is how we must live forever, with chocolate forbidden and working out hard all the time. But as you say once you reach your goal weight you dont have to work quite as much, just enough to maintain that. And I remind myself that I will be allowed to eat nice foods again- just in MODERATION.

I am also hoping that once I reach that weight that I'm really happy with it will feel so great that keeping myself like it will be motivation enough to keep the work up... I can't imagine going out and feeling lovely and thin, but I reckon I'd be willing to work a bit to keep that feeling. :)
