hi. i am 25 lbs overweight. I am so confused. I do cardio 4 days a week (elliptical or job) and 2 days pilates. I eat healthy (salads, yogurt, chicken, baked potato). I CAN'T SEEM TO LOSE WEIGHT. and I am so frustrated and depressed. Anybody have any clues as to how I can get my body to not be set at the weight I am at???? (i've tried nutrisystem, weight watcher, dietworkshop - all failed)

Thanks for your help.

Are you using the same diet and excersize plan every day??? If so, I would suggest that you shake things up a bit. Try a different excersize or diet maybe??

If your goal is to lose weight, we need to figure out how YOU lose weight...

1.) Look up your calorie expenditure...
2.) Subtract 500 calories from what you got... that is your daily intake.
3.) Take that number and multiply it like below...

Carbs = Daily Intake * .6 = Carb Calories
Protein = Daily Intake * .2 = Protein Calories
Fat = Daily Intake * .2 = Fat Calories

Carb Calories / 4 = Grams of Carbs
Protein Calories / 4 = Grams of Protein
Fat Calories / 9 = Grams of Fat

4.) Spread your daily intake into 4-5 small meals throughout the day, eatting about every 3 hours...

On top of that you should be doing resistance training about 3 times a week as well as 3-4 times cardio...

Resistance training should be a total body exercise for the first month or two to jump start your muscles. (2-3 sets of 15-20 reps) Your cardio training should be at in interval like 2:00 minutes at a "Easy" pace, followed by :30 seconds at a "Hard" pace, then 1:30 minutes at a "Medium" pace, and then flip back and forth between the :30 seconds at "Hard" and 1:30 minutes at "Medium" for abotu 25-35 minutes...

getting this body out of this rut!

OK, so I follow those calculations and do the exercises. I usually alternate b/w running, elliptical, walking for cardio and pilates and free weights for weight training.

Any ideas for cardio that may be different if my body is truly SET in this mode and knows my plaN???

do you think the cardio are all too similar? or, if i change duration/intensity then it should get my body out of this rut??

no, not the same exercise or diet.
same 1200 (roughly) calories per day but i change the intensity/duration/type of exercise daily and foods change as well?
dex- i followed that and this is what is happening.

As far as cardio try to do more of an "interval" type style...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Example....

On the Elliptical, Quick Workout Mode, Level of Resistance 5-8, KEEPING FEET FLAT, HEELS DO NOT LIFT UP....

Go 2:00 minutes at an "Easy" pace
Then :30 seconds at a "Hard" pace
Then 1:30 minutes at a "Medium" pace

Repeat the :30 & and 1:30 back and forth for 35-40 minutes...
----------------------------------------------------------------------

EEeek 1200 calories a day and all that exercise?
It seems kind of low to me but I don't know how hard you're pushing yourself.

Even though running and walking work different muscles, yes, I would try and do something else.
I'm a runner so what I do "shock" my body is boxing, ju-juitsu and kickboxing for example. I've always seen good results.

As far as strenth training, I vary that also, I like to use the swiss ball to do my strenth training sometimes...and of course the reps and weight will change too.

Hello:) ,

You might want to ask your doctor to take a blood test to check your thyroid function TSH, T3 and T4.
I ran into the same problem past Summer. My weight went up to 230, I exercised every day and was very careful wit my diet, but nothing worked until my doctor checked my thyroid and we found out I had an underactive thyroid.My doctor put me on medication imediately and I was able to loose 50 pound so far. Good luck!:)

No one is mentioning water intake. Drinking plenty of water is CRUCIAL to weight loss and also to maintaining health.

I thought plenty of water is just a given fact:) . Drink as much water as you can, the more - the better.:)

Yeah, take a break. Let your body become acustom to your present weight then start over. Simple and effective. If your body is use to all these pilates and cardio, then it's going to fight to maintain what its got. If you get your body used to NOT doing all that fat burning stuff, then hit it again in about a week ta ten days, it should be like a jump start.

Hi there,

I jog/walk and do step training as well as pilates and weight training.

I find skipping gives my body the jump start it needs so I skip about 4 times a week, throwing it into an circuit like format...6 minutes on stepper, 6 minutes skipping, 6 minutes stepper, 6 minutes skipping, 6 minutes weights, 6 minutes skipping...etc. At first I couldn't do 30 seconds skipping so it certainly gives my body the workout it needs. I listen to the radio while skipping and equate 6 minutes to about 2 songs...makes it easier to get through...lol.:D

I don't know whether you mentioned it...but exercising in the morning is always a great idea, this helps to fire up your metabolic rate....I jog in the mornings before work and find it sets me up for the day. I then do my other training at night.

All the best...

Leslee

I have read that if your body isn't getting enough protein, weight loss halts. Make sure you are getting enough lean protein in your diet.
