Hi Im new to this forum. Im a 19y/o female and desperate to lose weight. A few years ago i used to competitively swim and trained 3 times a week so i was very slim i was about 7 stone. Since quitting ive put on loads of weight making me feel really insecure especially when on holiday and at the pool. I am 5ft 4 and currently weight 10 stone 1lbs. I started at 10 st 13lbs at the end of February of this year and since then ive lost 12lbs which i am very happy with however the past few weeks ive gained weight. My goal is to be 8stone and a half, the weight i was in 2018. I strictly eat 1,200 calories a day, im lightly active i try to fit in skipping for 10 minutes everyday and go to the gym 2 times a week however due to the lockdown im going 5-8k walks usually 4 times a week. I have no health conditions. This is usually what i eat in a day. Breakfast - 2 weetabixs with 100ml of semi skinned milk. Lunch - tomato or home made soup. Dinner - home made chicken curry/ homemade spaghetti/ chicken salad. I try to drink as much water as i can, i dont drink fizzy drinks or anything. Ive stopped drinking alcohol the past few weeks, i dont drink fizzy drinks ect. I usually eating from 10am-7pm. Not sure if im doing this right because im new to all this but any help or advice would be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you should be losing weight. The only thing I really notice is that you seem be getting very little protein. For how long have you been sticking to the way of eating you´re describing? And did you count the alcohol calories your body was used to getting? If you´re really counting every calorie you´re eating/drinking and you´re healthy at your age you should be losing weight at 1200 kcal/day even if you don´t move at all. It does sometimes take a week or two to show on the scale because of water retention/hormonal changes.

Ive been done this since the start of March this year, I didn’t used to count my calories in alcohol either but stopped drinking about 4 weeks ago. I only usually have like chicken for dinner as don’t really like fish or beef. Thanks

I´m sorry I can´t be more helpful. By any standard of logic you ought to be losing weight. Maybe keep a detailed food/drink/exercise diary for two weeks, as well as recording your weight before and after, and take that to your doctor to show them what you´ve been doing. Just to make sure there´s no underlying health issue.

:iagree: with everything that LaMa said, Anna. I can't see why you are not losing weight & can't offer any other suggestions except sticking with it for another 2 weeks & if you have not lost anything see your doctor.

I agree with Cate and LaMa, at 1,200 calories a day you should lose weight. Have you tried carefully counting the calories to be sure you are right? Other than breakfast you didn't really give enough detail for us to know.

And maybe you just need to wait a bit longer. Weight is funny, if you eat well you will lose fat, but in the short term that doesn't always translate to weight. Things like water content can have a big effect, but over time the weight should come down.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Anna,
I am a bit like you - I try to stick to max 1200 cals per day and have an eating Window, although mine is from 2pm - 7pm as per an intermittent fasting suggestion I read online. That is when I’m being good anyway :p
One thing you could do is add another walk or 2 in, so you’re walking almost every day.
That is something that can help me to lose a few lbs if I have plateaued. Or you can walk with a weighted vest. I lost a few kg when I started walking carrying my almost 6kg baby in the front pack!
Have you thought about trying Keto? As you eat carbs currently, doing keto would likely see you lose some weight fairly quickly, as friends of mine who were eating carbs at every meal saw when they do the keto diet.
Anyway, just some suggestions, good on you for looking after your health and congrats on your weightloss so far!!
