I have been referred to as 'them'
As a teen, my brother reffered to me as 'them' - I have never been skinny (contrary to my motivational diary title), but eight years ago the kilos flew off me. Without dieting. Everybody got worried. I was quite happy, feeling light and energetic. I weighed 52kg and felt great. We were living on a farm - self sustaining, got lots of exercise and had a very healthy diet.

Then came the pregnancy
Eventually during 2004 we moved back to the city - my body rebelled by picking up a few kgs. Then came the pregnancy. Within 5 months I managed to accumulate a whopping 20kg. I just felt hungry all the time. So I ate. I never did get the chance to transform the excess body fat into mothers milk - I lost the baby. So there I was: fat, depressed, hormonal and sad.

Walking and Souping
My darling husband got me walking, by coming home earlier and taking me and the dog for a walk. I must admit, I needed more persuasion than the dog. It took me a year of walking and liters of 'Sacred Heart' diet soup to shed 10 kg.
Now I seem to be stuck. I stopped walking (safety reasons) and souping (sanity reasons). For a year I've been fluctuating between 58kg and 62kg. But the buck stops here - I am not comfortable in my body and my clothes do not fit properly.

New regime
On my new regime, I excercise every morning (except sundays). And I have changed my eating habits. So far so good - I have lost 1 kg in one week!! I am still in the 58/62 yo-yo zone, but at least I am yo-ing in the right direction.

::Day Two:: 61 to go

My Goal is to loose at least 1kg per week for the next two months.

For the first time in my life I am attempting calorie counting. I found a helpful website.
What is especially interesting is the breakdown of Vitamins, Minerals, Amino Acids, etc. after you have entered your dietary data. It helped me today to boost my Iron intake at dinner, after the graph showed my Iron intake for the day was too low.

This particular tool is good to use when wanting to boost certain nutrients. For instance, I suffer from depression, and therefore would like to consume food with a high level of Tryptophan and Methionine. So, I can do a search for foodstuffs hight in those particular nutrients.

I am trying to include as many 'happy foods' into my diet as I can. Hemp oil has helped tremendously. I do not really care for the taste, but it is OK on salad and almost undetectable in my egg yolk/oil/citrus juice drink I have in the mornings.

I did my Five Pakistanis (as my husband refers to my Five Tibetan exercise regime) and wanted to do Esters , but alas, I was too tired. Tomorrow... although I did do the visualization exercise :)

Overall it was a Good Day for Dieting. I did have a craving today, but satisfied it by eating a handful of (good source of Tryptophane)

Wel, signing off, two days down, 61 days to go

Good Dieting to all Fellow Diets

On Exercising ...

I have been doing the Five Tibetans, for the last few weeks - started at 3 repetitions of each rite and I am currently at 15 repetitions. I do feel better for it...except, my lower back is hurting. I have seen some posts mentioning the Five Tibetans causing back problems. Maybe I am doing them wrong.... I have decided to change over to yoga.

I started off this morning with - I did do the first, but found it to be a bit advanced.... :blush5: ... I did work up a bit of a sweat doing the Beginners Poses, and could really feel my out of shape body, imagining and and anticipating a fitter, more toned/aware body.

It almost feels a bit tragic to leave the Five Tibetans - I have worked my way to 15! And I could really feel a strengthening of my body core. I have been doing them very slowly, and maybe that has been to strenious for my lower back - I think I will try the at a quicker pace, more like aerobics.... and see if my back improves...

Thats it for now,

...I just had to have sushi... hmmm ... sashimi.... I think I might have gone over my calories for the day, but it was worth it. And in a different way than succumbing to chocolate or fudge...

I LOVE sushi, where I live there is all you can eat sushi for like $18... MMMMM... every time I go I am sure I eat at least 3000 calories worth, that is why I don't get it :p Shashimi isn't that bad thought, it is really the rice that kills it.

sushi sushi you make my willpower mushy...

:) Yes the rice... not too good for dieting - better than bread though... OK - no more sushi - just for two months, not for the rest of my life!
I must just remember:

Calorie update

Day one 1357
day two 1366
day three 1277 (sushi and rice reckoned in)
day four today 1361 (oops! plus a glass of wine)

so far so good
I seem to keep my intake at about 1400

30 min - 40 min yoga every day - I have stopped doing the Five Tibetans, and my back is much better for it. The yoga is working muscles I forgot I had :)

now to get the calories a bit lower... next week 1290 - 1300

I struggle to incorporate enough iron, vitamin K and calcium in my diet. But I do not really want to take supplements. :(

Note to self: Parsley - must plant parsley in garden!!

coffee in the mornings

Coffee in the mornings - whith whole milk (half a cup) and a teapspoon of sugar. I can't and won't function without it. But it is costing me 100 calories - rather empty calories - except maybe for the milk.

I suppose I will have to work around that then. Minus my 3 squeezed oranges for the day... :(

I cant stand skimmed milk and I refuse to use artificial sweetner. That's it then. I have to choose between my oranges and a cup of java...

Somehow I feel cheated. Not as if I have cheated - as if I am being cheated.

O balls.

It looks like you're doing great! Keep up the good work. :)

I have no doubt that you'll reach your goal weight!
