I'm a frail geeky computer guy. Electrical engineering honor student. Books are my antidrug. Soft and fragile. You know the type. I'm 23, about 5' 11", 160 lb, with the little bit of weight I have being fat (though I'm not fat -- just saying, if you squeeze my arm it'd feel like a water balloon).
Recently when cleaning out an old storage room I decided to put something in the living room that had previously just sat in the closet: an incline bench and four free weights (2x 10lb, 2x 20lb). I also have two push-up handle things. I thought it'd be nice to use them, but didn't actually plan to use them, mostly felt they'd make good decoration. When people came over and weren't looking at me, it'd look like I took care of my body, which seemed like a cool trick to play on people.
Well a couple weeks ago I started watching Star Trek The Next Generation, and with the equipment just sitting there I decided to play with it a bit. I actually noticed a rather immediate change in my biceps, both in strength and in feel. They felt more tense, more firm, and within just a week I noticed I was able to do far more reps. At first I couldn't really curl the 20lb at all and could only do about 20 reps of the 10. Now, a couple weeks later, I'm can do 50+ reps of the 10 (but I don't) and ~15 reps of the 20 (which I do). I've noticed a rather dramatic change in my upper tit muscles too, even with a shirt on, shirts fit better, which rules 'cause I have pectus canarium (bird chest, google that ****).
Anyway, my point is I'm sort of hooked by seeing results so easily. I know these first results are easiest to get, but I'm now motivated to do more. The big problem is I don't want to invest in a lot of equipment (no more equipment, if possible) but want a more rounded workout. Right now the only difference I'm really seeing is bicep and upper tit. I currently only do bicep curls, hammer curls, situps, and pushups. I'm concerned about lower body stuff because my left knee is pretty bad from a skateboarding injury, so I think I'd prefer to stick to upper body stuff for now. Should I keep doing what I'm doing, or is there more I should add?
