Hypertrophy problems

OK so from what i've read and heard, i should be doing 3-4 sets, and 6-10 reps.

I've just finished doing my Flys among other exercises, and since i've been a vegetarian my whole life, and don't have the raw solid muscles that a normal guy my age/size would have, I find it quite hard to lift an amount that allows me to achieve 3 sets. It becomes either too hard or too awkward to keep good form.

I started by doing 10kg (including db weight) @ 1 set for 8 reps and i couldn't keep my arms as outstretched as i should be, so i downgraded to 9.5kg. I then got out 4 sets (10,8,7,6). Although this made it slightly easier, I feel like 7kg is better for me. I wouldn't use the word 'struggle' but it was a challenge for each rep of my flys, rather than getn worn out on the last 2-3 reps of each set.

With most of my other exercises i'm achieving 5 sets with a gradual decrease in reps, eg. 12,10,8,8,8 or similar.

What should i do?

Any opinions are welcomed.

Hypertrophy

Since you're struggling with the weights why don't you switch your focus to Body Weight Exercises. Pushups and pulls. Jump squats and dips. Check out all the BW stuff on the site. Add some interval cardio training and get stronger without the risk of injury or disappointment. Once you get going you'll find increases in strength and endurance maybe not the muscle mass but fitness should be your first goal. Do lots of core exercises planks, knees to bar leg lifts, renegade rows. Your core is important and strength in this area will help with everything else. Work harder, experiment and have fun.

start of on a weight you can complete your aloted number of reps/sets ie if it 3x10 use a weight that allows you to do that, dont let your ego get the better of you.

it doesnt matter if you cant lift as much weight as the next guy, hypertrophy occurs by gradually increasing the weight (even light weights) once you can complete 3x10 you can either increase the weight or change reps/sets etc etc.
also cant see why being a veggie is hindering your strength, there are plenty of sources to get the required protien/fat/carbs you need this day and age,its not like it was years ago, there are powders drinks etc etc.
