Huge problem with bench press

I get the feeling that I'm only working my triceps when I'm doing dumbbell bench press... I think that I've got the form down right, but I just don't feel anything at all in my pecs when I'm done. And I know it's not so much a matter of having to little weight, because I even did a set to failure today.

Are you tucking you're shoulderblades inn under you? Are you going all the way down or stopping halfway, like alot of people for some wierd reason do?

Ya I seen this little bitty at the gym Sunday doing all his movements with about 1/4 ROM. He was benching 135 at probably 6".

I overheard this dude teaching DB bench to someone. He was standing behind them watching them do it with full rom, then said "you dont have to go so far down, you will hurt you're shoulders" so the dude started doing it with half rom..

Its freakin ridiculous some of the stuff I see. Like when I seen an old classmate in the gym and he started talking out loud about these two guys squatting form. They were going down about 1/4 and he was just letting em have it.
Or the same squat guy that wears his back belt for everything.

ohh.. yeah. this one guy at my gym.. its all of the soccer players, but espechally this one guy. He breaks at the knee, and only goes asfar as the kneebreak can without getting his heels off the floor, theres NO hip break AT all. and he uses a ton of weight.. it looks so painful :(

I was talking about 90 degrees at the shoulder while benching. My shoulders are not great, so I don't risk going any lower, but I am curious what people think.

maybe its a recommendation if you flare you're elbows.. which you shouldnt, the angle between the body and the upper arm should be about 45 degrees on the bench press

You guys should tell these people and show them how to do it properly! It pisses me off as well especially when I have shown a client how to do something and I see them doing it wrong. I understand people forget but still.

I have corrected a few people, but sometimes I wont because the lifters will be in groups and usually are being ignorant and stupid. You sometimes can just tell someone who doesnt wanna hear that they arent doing things right. I was gonna correct the kid doing 1/4 ROM movements, but he left before I had the chance.

yeah, whats worse is when pretty big guys do these things, and smaller newbies do the same because they think "ohh.. so thats how he got so big!"

could it have something to do with my grip? i just realized that i do it with my palms facing up... i feel so stupid now

you did them with an underhand grip? it shouldnt cause troubble as far as im aware.. but try to switch to a regular grip.

Ok so if your triceps are getting the burn but your chest is not you need to do some isolation moves. It's absolutely true that your tris are smaller, so of course they are going to fatigue quicker. Try hitting the peck deck as your first execise, this will take your triceps completely out of the equation and give your pecs a nice burn. Be sure to do plenty of reps and squeeze the weight in the middle for 1-2 seconds.
