Well, after browsing these boards for a few weeks, I decided to register for a name and jump in on all the fun. There's so much information here! And what a great bunch of people! I hope I can get some personalized tips for myself because afterall, I don't know everything.
As for a little background information about myself -- I'm 23 and I've been a health nut since I've been able to choose my own food and develop my own exercise routine (which has been awhile); however, I'm always striving for more of a leaner, meaner, muscle machine body. And just by looking at me, you wouldn't believe that I go to the gym six days a week. Therefore, I'm here to learn what in the heck i'm doing wrong! I need suggestions... because I'm ready to work even harder!
And well that about sums it up for now.... have yourselves a great day
Welcome sleesh. May I suggest you start a journal? I've always found it a good way to go back and analyse where I am at and what improvements I have made. If you're training 6 times a week and not seeing the results you would like, maybe putting your routine under the scrutiny of others could highlight where potential changes could be made?
Yeah, that's a good idea. I think I might have to start that... and hope that I stay motivated enough to keep it up. I wish I had more people to work out with around here. I live in a small town and we lack any big gyms like Balleys or YMCA. The one I go to is just a family owned one in a run-down building; nonetheless, the people are great and they have nice equipment, but the people who work-out are either big, buff guys or your average old folk who's decided to start a "losing weight" New Years Resolution. I haven't yet got the courage to join the guys downstairs in doing the free weights.... and from reading these boards and a bunch of other information online about free weights being better than machines -- I'm guessing that's where i'm going wrong in my routine.
I've been doing the same routine for a while now. I wouldn't even know where to start in starting a new weight training routine. Any suggestions? And to make matters worse, I don't even know the names of the exercises I do, which would make my journal a little confusing. I would say "I did 3 sets of 15 on that machine where you pull the bar down." Hah ha. That's why I need the help of you smart folks
Thanks for the reply! I'm liking this message board already...
lol - I think that those particular excercises are 'lat pulldowns'. It can be difficult training in a public gym on the free weights (in my old gym, referred to as the 'animal pit!) but, you may be surprised. A lot of the big guys who worked out there were genuinely helpful and really nice guys - you'll never know unless you try Alternatively, you could always invest in some dumbells and a bench. You can get a pretty comprehensive workout with that equipment alone.
I really would suggest you try to note down all the excercises you're doing (even if its just by description) I'm sure that between us all, we will be able to identify them and perhaps suggest some alternatives to maybe kick start your body into reacting again.
Alright Chris... I did it. I started a diary -- complete with all my ridiculous descriptions. Let's see how good you are! If you can figure out what the heck i'm describing -- I give ya two thumbs up!
And I think I'm just gonna have to get this pathetic intimidation feeling out of me; I'm gonna havta walk down there to all those big, buff men and ask "hey big boy, are you done with that bench?"
Anyhow, read my diary -- give me some constructive criticism. Something's gotta change!!
