Hi there, I am a newbie and was told I should come introduce myself. I am here to learn more about what I can do to lose weight and change my way of life.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for introducing yourself! So have you made any changes so far in trying to lose weight?

Hi, I have made two major changes, well major to me so far, I have cut out white bread 100% and I have joined a boot camp class three times a week. Other than that there have been little changes but nothing that has really stuck. Right now im trying to work on eating healthier more times a day then just three huge carb filled meals.

i dont' think theres anything GOOD about white bread either. But LC is right, no matter how good or not something is...theres always such thing as too much.

Just try to stick with a few changes at a time... once you have those under control add one or two more. A lot of people tend to get overwhelmed when they try to change too many things all at once. Just a question... what do you mean by carb filled meals? Could you give me an example?

It would be things like potatoes, bread, and pasta all in one meal.

Ah, ok yes that would be a pretty unbalanced meal!

Have you ever seen or heard of the plate method? Here is what it looks like: http://www.diabetes.ca/documents/about-diabetes/WhatsOnYourPlate%282%29.pdf

And to get an idea of portions: http://www.diabetes.ca/Files/plan%20your%20portions.pdf

If you don' think that counting calories is going to work for you, then just trying to eat proper portions can help a lot.

Hey, thanks for the link, I have heard of it, but its always nice to see it spaced out like that.

Question for everyone, I am looking into protein powders for after work outs and also something to mix into shakes when I dont get a chance to eat. Not because I want to skip meals but my job has me on the road a lot and I want to stay away from fast food. More just something to keep my energy up until I get a chance to eat. Any suggestions?

You'll just have to be really careful about reading labels. A lot of protein powders have a lot of additives or other ingredients. If you're trying to lose weight, you have to be careful not to buy protein powders that also have a lot of carbohydrate added. Look at the calories, make sure you measure out your portions and factor that into your daily caloric intake!

Hey everyone who might still be interested, its been a month since i have been actively trying to lose weight by exercising and eating better, To date I have lost 5 lbs so far! I really want to keep it off this time so I am doing everything I can to stay healthy!.

Im waiting for my trainer to get back to me on the inches i have lost so I will post that when she does.

Great going...seems like you are approaching your goal to being fit in a cerebral way.

Have you cut out the sugar as well? Cutting out sugar will make you lose pounds much quicker. If you keep your sugar intake to what fruits give you daily...you are fine.

Anyways keep all posted...Keep it up
