How to maintain my weight?

Hi there, im 14 years old and im wondering how I would go about calculate how many calories I would need to have in a day to maintain my weight and how many to have a decent weight loss without going over the top????
At the moment I do weight training every other day and crunches the other day.
And also do a fair ammount of exercise during the week....

Sorry, but your 14! Your body is still growing- your weight now is not the weight your supposed to be for the rest of your life!

Every year you should be getting slightly bigger, gaining muscle, body fat and stregnth. If you don't gain weight your body will likely be malnourished and you risk things like osteoperosis (brittle bones where you break bones and fracture bones at the drop of a hat, its a problem you get when your elderly) your hormones wouldn't work properly, your periods would stop or at least you'd stop ovulating, this can mean although you bleed each month, your body will not relase an egg, ulimatly this means you cannot have children and it can damage your body as a result of the low hormone levels. If your male similar things would happen to your sperm and you'd develop a low sperm count.

Aside from that your muscles would not continue to grow, your body would eat them as it would not be growing but would need to grow, your body would try to maintain the fat levels before it tries to maintain the muscle levels unless your following a muscle building programme (and so gaining some weight) and you would have poor stregnth and basicly not be healthy and not look healthy.

You need to understand that part of getting older, until your in your mid 20s is about weight gain. Not all at the same time, gradually and over time. Even after your mid 20s your body will still be changing but the differences will not be about growth any more. If you want to have a healthy body long into your old age, you need to lay down good foundations now. Trust me, you do not want to be 30 or 40 and wheelchair bound and yes, it can happen I have seen it.

If your worried about your weight, please see a professional, a doctor, a dietition or someone with a medical background. They can advise and refer, I can't tell you what the calculation is to maintain your weight at 14 as the calculation is there for people who are over the age of 19 when their bodies have done the most of their growing. The fact your younger would indicate your body would infact be working differently and require a whole different amount of calories and nutrition.

Please take care of your body, you only get one!

Thank you for that post, but I think you got the wrong end of the stick :p
Im not looking to lose WEIGHT only to lose fat, Im in no way worried about my weight, infact since I have been doing my fitness and workouts I have put on about 2 st

How to maintain weight? It is easy. Exercise regularly and a balanced diet. That will help you to maintain that body you have.

But at 14 you need to gain weight, and unless yout already a fully formed adult (have the body of a 20 year old) you do still need to gain fat.

Fat is an important part of any women's body, seriously, yo get more as you age, its there to retain hormones, its there to retain lots of stuff (to keep you alive) if you don't have enough of it, your body stops producing certain hormones, one result is brittle bone disorder called Osteoperosis, another is having periods but not ovulationg and so not being able to have children, another is your hair falling out, your body growing hair to keep you warm if you don't have enough fat.

Are you talking about toning up? as your saying you don't want to lose weight but you do want to lose fat- so if you lose fat, your weight will drop, if you don't want your weight to drop, what are you going to replace the lost fat with?

Remember a healthy level of fat will vary from person to person but you really need to have enough when your young- your setting the foundations for the rest of your body's life here- you need good foundations or things will be difficult or nasty when your older.

Put it this way, I have a friend who is now in her 60s. When she was 15 she was very tiny, underweight, skinny had no body fat. She used to do alot of ballet. Only one time she slipped, fell, hurt (but not broke) part of her spine. Now luckily for her, the doctors worked out that as she was underweight and specificly had low body fat, she had malnourished bones. She was advised to gain weight, which she did begrudgingly, but her back problems remained until she was a healthy weight, way into her late 20s. She has since gone through the menopause, her periods have stopped, her bones began to decay as they do in everyone who hits the menopause. And you want to know the first thing that went wrong? her back! She had an x-ray, the problem is the exact same spot that had been damaged when she was 15. It just goes to show that old injuries when your at a low weight can stick around far longer then you think they can. And can come back to haunt you.

Please be careful- the last thing you want is to be confined to a wheelchair when your only 50 because you wanted a lowe body fat- by all means lower your body fat, but please make sure its within a safe range and still allows you enough body fat so your body can still grow up healthily and strong.

Pt-141

You’re too young to be conscious about your weight. Your body is still growing, but then it’s up to you to do want you wanted to do to your body. Being health conscious is not bad or what but then always remember that over conscious it may lead you to be an addicted to the thing you believe is right. Exercise is one of the most effective ways of getting a slim and healthy body.:newangel:
