How to lose weight and keep skin tight?

I didn't really know where to post this. Had a question that some of you may be able to answer. If it's been asked and asked and asked and I just couldn't find it, I'm sorry and I'll delete this.

Anyway, I see people lose weight a lot, and after they do, they have loose skin. What's the best way to lose weight without this happening? I'm at 290 right now, and I need to get down to 230. Does this happen if you lose it too quickly or if you just go about it a certain way? Thanks for any input, and like I said, if there's a thread about this already, point me to it and I'll delete this one. Thanks again!

There are a few threads on this already but -i doon't feel like seaching and merging rightnow

60lbs isn't a huge amount of weight -

so if you lose weight at a reasonable pace, (1 percent of your body weight a week) keep up with strength trainning (read the stickied threads for more info on that) you shouldn't have much of a problem

From what I have seen, the people who end up with loose skin after weight loss either had a tremendous amount to lose (200 lbs and more), or they had gastric bypass and they lost weight so fast that their skin didn't have a chance to shrink. Since you only want to lose 60 lbs, you shouldn't have a problem as long as you do it slow and steady, with weight training.

Thanks for the replies guys. Should I be working out everything with weights? I have a couple of 20 lb free weights but that's it. I also have a 60 lb boxing bag I can use to do some weight training (take it off the stand and use it like a weight). I'll look in the nutrition forum to get a better idea of what weight training to do. Thanks again.

the exercise forum has some really well done stickied threads on weight training workouts - some that include body weight exercises as well, complete with videos... You are going to want to incorporate cardio into your plan as well.

Proper nutrition will also factor into you losing those 60lbs you want to drop... do check out the stickied threads in the nutrtion forum - for some ideas of calorie ranges you should be in, etc...
