How to lose and tone proportionately

When I gain weight it's mostly in my lower body (hips, thighs, legs, etc.) and it's the hardest for me to slim. I got into running before my wedding and it seemed to be the only that really worked on slimming and toning those areas. However, when I run I lose the weight all over. My upper body is totally opposite of my lower in that I don't gain much weight up there and when I lose I lose it fast. Even at my current weight of 154 you can still see the rib cage between my breasts and the bottom of the rib cage, not to mention my collar bone is also pronounced. For example...my upper body fits a dress size 2 and my lower body fits a dress size 6/8.

It's my upper body that always leads people to tell me "you shouldn't lose anymore weight" and sometimes makes me look "too thin"

I tried weight training on my upper body while focusing on running and yoga and things for the lower body work outs and it worked, but to only some degree. While I don't mind the rapid weight loss around my tummy and arms, I just hate feeling so disproportionate.

Any tips or suggestions on how to balance out?

Unfortunately (or actually fortuntely), you already found the solution. Your body tends to gain and loose fat in places predetermined by your genetics and there is NO way to change that. You just have to commit to a lifelong program as you described above. Good luck.

yep, genetics, and also gender. women hold fat in the thighs, hips, buns...men store it mostly in the abdomen.

its the first place to store fat and the last place for it to be burned from.
