How to get started with an Elliptical Trainer

Hi, I just got an Elliptical Trainer for my Birthday. I can't wait to get started but it's not easy. I'm 44 and would like to lose 30 lbs. and get rid of the baby weight I gained with each child. Haven't exercised in years. How long should I do this at the beginning? How long will it take me to get up to 15 or 20 minutes?

When I first started out on an elliptical 7 years ago I had trouble doing 10 minutes. Within a week I was doing ten minutes twice a day. Then 20 minutes once a day then 30 minutes etc. After about two months I was up to 45 minutes. I now do between 45 and 60 minutes 7 days a week at 70 to 80% of my MHR. I am 61 years old. I have lost 40 pounds and kept it off over those 7 years. I just love the elliptical. Do what you can, but anything under 20 isn't doing a lot of good. Make sure your heart rate is around 70-75%.
 
When I got on the elliptical on Sunday I did two minutes and it killed me. So now it's Tuesday and I'm up to 5 minutes twice a day. So hopefully I will get the hang of it and get myself up to at least 20 or 30 minutes a day. I like it and can't wait to be able to get a good workout. Thanks for the information. Deb
