How to choose a barbell/dumbell

Any suggestions on buying equipment? I'm planning on doing a (mostly) dumbell workout, but I'm concerned about the $30/100 lb weight set not being able to support more than 50 lbs per dumbell. Also, is there a difference between olympic and non-olympic bars? I also plan to buy a basic flat/incline bench. Any problems that I might run into later?
 
standard olympic bars and plates are better IMO. they're standardized, so you don't get screwed with a proprietary size on the inner hole and getting stuck having to buy overpriced plates.

for dumbbells, I own separate weights, gym style. I find it annoying ot have to swap plates on dumbbells. Powerblocks are easier to use, and I think soloflex or someone has a powerblock knockoff.

I mostly workout at Gold's Gym tho.
