How Often Should I Work Out?

Hi everyone! I am a 5'9" 228 lb 20 year old guy. I have been on my diet for the last week and half. I have seen some losses, and have even been able to fight the urge to weigh myself everyday. I have been using an elliptical machine everyday for at least 30 minutes. How often should I work out? Is everyday workouts overdoing it? Or am I good to keep it up?
 
Depends on your goals and the exertion level. Everyone is different. If you do weights you pretty much have to have recovery time but with light cardio like you are doing every day is likely fine. Just remember if you feel you need it, it wont kill you to take a day or two off.

Its good to mix it up once in a while. Elliptical is a great source of cardio, but maybe you could try walking and then eventually running on some days. Going on hikes and using a mobile or stationary bicycle are also great options. Your body gets used to a certain activity if you do it every day exactly the same, so by mixing it up, you're pushing your metabolism into gear and workign different muscles in your body. Depending on how new to cardio you are, I would aim for 4-5 times a week to get into the habit and get your heart rate up.

Also, strength training is very important. Building muscle allows you to burn more calories on a regular basis (whether you're working out or not). Start out slow, maybe 20 minutes 2-3 days a week and then work on increasing it once you get the hang of it.

Well really you should work out every single day. Whether you want to lost weight or not, it is what is necessary for the rest of your life.

No matter your weight, you shoud train every day to be healthy and to maintain your physique.

If you are overweight i would be training long sessions or twice a day with weights and cardio.
