Yeah, this is pretty much personal venting but let's share the complaint.

My wife talks to f-in quiet that I probably say "What?" more then 50 times each day! It's like the words barely fall out of her mouth and get drowned before they move more then 10" away from her mouth. I'm so sick of having to say "what" that I've tried keeping count and prefacing the word 'what' with the number. I've tried ignoring her. I've tried mimicing her by repeating what I did hear back in a sub-audible tone. I've also just said "I'm sorry, that was sub-audible" and reminding her I've had my hearing checked and it's above-normal.

Okay, *****ing aside, let's poll this sucker!

no wife, but I could always understand my previous girlfriends fine, and they could understand me fine too.

Maybe your just a mean bastard and she is afraid of you....

I don't have a wife because I am a girl ha ha...but I swear my BF says it to me so freaking much after I tell him something. And it is NOT because I am not loud!! It's because he just doesn't listen to me...always doing something else. Then I won't repeat it and he asks me exactly what I told him not 20 mintues ago...LOL But I just wanted to share that :D

Not wife, but GF.
I say "what" all the time, because my mind is elsewhere when she talks. she gets upset sometimes and doesn't bother repeating what she said :p She has to learn that she must poke me to get my attention if I'm no the PC or watching the telly..

Leslie.....this doesn't apply to you; your cute enough where it'd be tolerable no matter what. :D

Just so everyone knows, this isn't a wife-bashing thing, just some fun and to see if everyone else has this experience too. I once posted it on another forum and it was really heavy towards most men saying they can't hear their wives. In the end, we concluded it was an adaptive/survival function.

Which reminds me of another unrelated story....

After my wife and I got a puppy we were headed back, later that night, from dinner with some friends. One of our friends asked if we were going to get the dog neutered eventually...and we indicated yes. Then the subject came-up as to how it's done. Someone said they tie a rubber-band around the scrotum, another person said they inject the scrotum with something and I then bluntly said they just anesthetize the dog and perform the routine surgery just like they would on a human. Then my buddy said "there must be a cheaper & easier way to do it"....so I replied, to my wife:

"Well, we could always have your mom b!tch & nag at the dog until his balls just fall off and only the frail remains of his manhood are left intact......seems she did the same thing to your dad and he's pretty well tamed & behaved today".

Ya know RWS, you may have a point to the mean-bastard thing! ;)

I know, it's a horrible thing to say.....but my fragile little mind can't filter out my thoughts fast enough and it's not like I can't somehow make it upto my wife later. But in defense, my mother-in-law *****es & bosses that man around something awful and everyone knows it....so on the basis of truth I adamantly defend my slanderous accusation. Okay, fine...I didn't get sex for a week but whatever.

I hate those *****es who constantly talk about theirselves. Theres no need to say 'what' to them sort. Its either you get a f*ck, or they f*ck off.

maybe I am a bit older now,,, oh poor me, but it is my hope that my lady would not respond like this.

attention in many different forms is why some guys aren't jonesing for a woman all the time....;)

just saying...

oh,, and how could I respong by asking "what?" I didn't even realize she could talk. hahahhahhahahaa

I hate it when someone keeps saying what to me, man it pisses me off!

After every 'what' they say, i repeat it louder and more angry.

If my daughter says "what?" I ignore her until she says "pardon?" instead. You should try it, it words on adults too, I do the same if people don't say please.

The use of "What?" as a request to repeat what I've just said actually gets me really angry, I've totally lost it at people before for saying that to me.

What?

:p

My wife is the one who can't hear so I'm constantly repeating myself.

Thats ok cuz I'm damn near blind so she has to read small print for me. LOL

Seriously? you get mad? What is wrong with the word "what"? I mean, it depends on the tone in which they say it, but as long as it is a friendly tone I don't get the problem..

Yea same kark ^

Im used to people saying what, nobody says pardon to me :D

I can be sometimes like that with the word 'please' tho, but not often. Thats usually to women :)

It's disrespectful; "what?" used as a one word question is vulgar and shows you couldn't even be bothered to say 'pardon?', or 'sorry, I didn't hear that' which is then a reflection of the value you place on the person you're talking to. If you think about it, saying 'what?' doesn't even make sense in that context, is it meant to be short for 'what did you just say?'

Whatever it's meant to mean it's poor manners and I'm very picky about the way people speak to me, it's a matter of common courtesy
