how often can i train?

Hi, i wonder if anyone can help. I have only been training for two months now and i train 4 times a week for around an hour and a half at a time. I am not looking to lose weight but just to tone up. I do arms and back on mondays an thursdays, and chest an shoulders on tuesdays an fridays. I am not going to chance training on my legs at all at the min because i had a new crucite ligament last year and i'm in quite a physical job anyway. I would like to know if i could train more than this per week???? Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks!!

Actually, I think four days at 1 and 1/2 hour is sufficient and you probably don't need to do anymore than you do now.

Due to the fact that you are doing only upper body workouts and no lower body I believe that doing anymore than you are doing right now will create an imbalance.

If you want to spread out your exercises more I think that 5 or 6 days will be good, but reduce the time that you spend exercising.

Well any doctor should tell you that 3-6 months is plenty of time needed to get back to using your knee. Talk to the doc, you should get an okay. Training just the top half of your body is just going to make things worse. Being fearful to injure a part of your body will mess with the rest of it. Get a doctor to tell you what you can or can't do as far as thats concerned and start to train right.

You can't tone, its a made up verb. You can lose body fat to show the shape and contour of your muscle though.

Also WAY to long of a workout, and you aren't even doing full body work. I can't imagine what you are doing to yourself in there.

If you get the doctors thumbs up, start doing heavy compound movements, full body, 3 days a week. No more than 40-45 mins period.

She knows her stuff...

Cruciate ligaments are usually up to full strength within a year, the only risk to your acl is if you are doing movements using twisting and breaking movements, If you keep away from things like dynamic lunges and maintain form then it should have no effect. Weights might be lower for one leg so stick to unilateral movements.
