I am going to school for 2 months and will be staying at our cabin. Since I will not have much to do up there I thought I would work hard at loosing weight, safely.

I will be bringing up my dumbbell and barbell's to our cabin and some other small workout stuff.

I do have a few other questions to ask besides the weight loss.

I weight 245 pounds and am 5'11" male.

how many callories a day do you think I should have?
I am healthy(minus the weight) Never smoked or taken drugs.

I went from 264 to 220 in four months. I didn't even really excerise that much, I just cut out soda and played hockey once a day. 10lbs a month is doable when you have a lot of extra weight.

Once you get down around 200 it starts getting harder to lose.. Im stuck at 215.

I know at a certain part you will have trouble loosing some weight that is why I am planning on some changes when I get back.

I will be riding my bike to and from work.
never drink pop again mostly water with ocasional juice
I don't drink so cutting alcohol out isn't a problem.
proper breakfast, lunch, and super
planning on never having anything deep fried again.
gym after work

that is the plan hopefully it goes through.

any good website for healthy meal recipies?

50 pounds lighter..

I am a male as well, started at 220 and am now at 170.. 50 pounds lighter.

For the most part, I stick to 1400 calories a day, and at least 200 or more in fresh fruits and veggies. Lots of water.. Mix it with Crystal Light to get it down. I also have a cheat meal or two a week. I don't eat after 7pm.

I could lose the weight faster I am sure if I would not cheat on occassion... but I don't want to lose it too fast. Slow is the way to go. My goal is to lose another 15 pounds, maybe 20. But either way, I want to continue to watch the calories for good now, and continue to eat more fresh fruits and veggies, and drink more water. I feel a MILLION times better. No more acid reflux, and I have energy through the roof.

Enjoy your time at the cabin.. Sounds like you will have fun.

Everyone has their own pace. I can't recall my exact rate of weight loss when I lost 65lbs a few years ago, but you can safely lose a good deal of weight quickly in the beginning. Part of this reason is that it will be mostly water weight (depending on your diet). In general weight loss becomes slower (I almost said more difficult, but that's really not a good way to look at it) as you get down in weight. I went from 250 to 185 in less than half a year, but my personal pace was fairly high, as I walked 5-10 miles almost every night for a few months, worked out, and eventually started jogging.

Just like someone else had mentioned, the lower 200's started getting slower, and I really hit a couple hard plateau's after getting below 200. If you can live with drastic changes for a decent amount of time and have a more lenient and long-term plan to fall back on after reaching the point where you are happy with yourself, it is a good way to go. You'll see significant changes in relatively little time and when you hit plateau's after dropping a significant amount of weight you can switch to an easier plan to deal with. It may be slower, but by then you should be feeling much better than before anyways. I made the mistake of thinking, "hey, I'm in great shape and lost 65lbs, now I can go back to eating like I used to and enjoy my newfound health!". Now I'm here 3 years later trying to lose it all again.

You can safely lose 1/2 to two pounds per week. it takes 3500 calories to gain or lose one pound. to lose weight you have to create an energy (calorie) deficit. You should do that through a combination of proper nutrition and exercise. A reasonable goal is to reduce your calorie intake by 200-300 calories per day and expend an additional 200-300 calories in exercise. if you do that consistently, you will see results. as far as your daily needs... check this web site... it has a good calculator for calculating RMR and daily calorie needs. also, to better understand what it really takes to gain or lose one pound... listen to this podcast (yes, I did it... NO, please don't consider this advertisement... this is really good, free, information that will help you and others achieve their goals. I only want to help.) Hope these tools will aide you in your efforts!

To your health!

God Bless you and your efforts.:)
