How much weight can I lose healthily per week?

Hey :) I'm a new member here. I'm currently 162 and, like many out there, would like to lose the weight quickly (goal is at least or under 140), but I would like to do healthily, so I was wondering, per week and/or per month, how much weight should I try to lose?
Thanks :)

1% per week is classed as a good rate of healthy fat loss.

There are all sorts of other things measured when we get onto the scales... For example water retention and weight of the food currently going through our bodies...

This is the reason why people often lose a lot more in the first week or so of any new diet...
They may be eating a lot less (exercising portion control) so they have less food in their system...
They may have cut down on the amount of sodium in their food - which has a direct impact on water retention... It is very easy to eat sodium at a level which causes water retention without sprinkling any salt in the cooking or on the plate...
They may be drinking more water - which has a direct impact on water retention... Our bodies need water so hold onto water (with water retention) if it has any indication that there may be a shortage... Drinking plenty of water helps reduce water retention.

if you really want to loss one to two pounds per week, you need to reduce your calorie intake by at least 500 calories per day. Depending on your diet, this may be as easy as cutting out one high calories indulgence, or you may need to reduce calories across your day by choosing low calorie foods and reducing portion sizes.

If you balance the reduction of calorie intake with some steadily increased activity you'll find you can gain some consistency in your weight loss.

I was told that around 1-2 pounds a week is normal enough. anything more than that (drastic weight loss) is not really good for the body.

What others have been saying. Also, another member on here explained if you lose any more than recommending, you run the risk of losing lean muscle, too.

I've been dropping about 5 pounds per week but am putting on muscle at the same time.

Reduce portions, eat protein, veggies, veggies, veggies!!!!! and drink lots of water.
