How much sugar?

I know this has probablly been asked many times before, but i checked out today that a teaspoon (4g) of sugar is only 16 calories, and i know thats not very much, so will it matter if i have maybe 3 teaspoons of sugar in my breakfast in the morning? or does sugar have other effects that just a few calories?

Thanx

the thing is sugar adds up throughout the day. my advice would be switch to "splenda", it has no calories and can pass for sugar in most applications.

I think a little sugar for breakfast is fine. Just try not to eat carbs right before excersizing because you will probably get your blood sugar messed up.

I just tell myself to "keep it to a minimum" I really don't count my sugar very often but I am certain that it is under 40 a day and I dont go into detail beyond that. If you feel that you are still okay with that sugar do go for it but try to ween yourself off of it. If you think that it's unneccesarry than cut it out but keep in mind that spenda is not that "sweet and sour" garbage that you see at church. Splenda is amazing and I reccommend it to everyone.

I use sugar in my morning coffee. the rest of my diet is clean, so that bit of sugar doesn't really compare to the several cans of soda that most Americans drink during the day.

I used this justification for years. What have found is a better system is how much sugar do I eat compared to (favorite athletes name)

However little sugar you eat you would be absolutely amazed at how much energy you get when you cut it in half

Sugar is a stimulant, it will increase your blood sugar levels drastically, and then as the body attempts to counteract the high levels you will have a slump of blood sugar. Your energy levels slump, you get headaches, cannot sleep, cannot wake up, sweat to much, lack concentration, get irratible etc etc..

These are all of course extremes and a bit of sugar with your breakfast wouldn't cause them, but you'd be surprised how much your energy levels are raised in the long run if you cut out sugar altogether (as well as other stimulants). The body never evolved to digest glucose (refined sugar), it's too potent an energy source. Eat more complex carbohydrates that are slow releasing and keep your energy levels even.

Is whole wheat bread good? I think I heard from someone to eat whole grain, but whole wheat is still good and healthy right?
