How much is enough?

By this i mean i have access to a gym, but due to school/work scheduals i am unable to always go inless i woke up extra early 6am or earlier (id rather not). So is going to the gym once a week really going to do much for me, im trying to build strength endurance and size. Sometimes i can go 2x a week but not to often which i resort to body weight training at home just the basics like push ups and squats (sometimes adding weight with what dumbells i have).

my diet is well not the best, but i do watch what i eat and eat things good for me on a daily basis.

any opinions are appreciated, thank you.

from what i've learnt, 2-3 times a week is good, and also it depends on how hard you train on those particular times.

also a mate of mine who goes to the gym early in the morning, says its good because it gets your body's metabolism started, and you feel fresh for the day, and if perhaps you have a function or whatever to attend at night, chances are very high that you won't slack off.

Thats just my 2 cents anyways.

Goodluck =)

Thanks for your reply, generally i try to hit 3x a week but school/work is kicking my butt i find im usually to tired and want to do other things after :/ even then my gym closes at 10pm (i chose it cuz no monthly fee and $5 just for the day for walk ins) usually i work till 8pm :/ i usually do some what i think are hard work outs atleast im usually tired and sore after.

Also another question for (ill use biceps as an example) do i need to do like 3 sets 10 reps dumbells then thats enough for a work out? or should i do that then move to a curl bar and do 3 set 10 reps?

thanks in advance.

It depends on the person. Some people don't even do bi's and tri's cause they work those muscles secondary from doing chest and back. I personally do bi's and tri's as an isolation in conjunction with chest/back and do db curls (3x10) and then bb curls (3x10) but that works for me. Hope that helps.

thanks, gives me some ideas of what to do...iv been weight lifting for about 5 years now, i just have yet to get a set thing down to do for back/chest/arms which i tend to do in one day. I just need to get a really good set work out going which would include body weight training on days i can not make the gym.

If you have limited access to the gym but can make it 3x per week then you can look at a FBW like the stronglifts 5x5. Its not for people who are afraid of squats and deads and hits all your muscle-groups, plus has bodyweight stuff (dips, chinups and pullups).

I try to make it as often as i can, i can in no way make it 3x a week, i can do 2x a week but it doesnt give me much time, school over with at 12pm and work starts at 3pm, which makes it hard to eat something/drink something before the gym to make sure i have the energy. in which case i have to be home by 2:20 to change pack a lunch and take my protein. inless i just take clothes with my change at the gmy into work clothes then go to work make my shake to drink then work :/ that just may work.

thanks for your input guys
