How much do you earn?

Yes its a personal question but I am interested to know how much money you personal trainers earn a year and how many hours you work.

And even if your not a PT I'd be interested to know what you earn.... ;)

$37.50/hr @ about 35 hours a week ~ $63,000/year (plus I've only been a personal trainer for 2 years now... one more certification and bumping it up $40/hr :p )

6 days a week? Very easy to do... I don't do any single sessions unless it's a program update... when people train with me they are with me at least twice a week for the first month... and then every month I just renew their package... Get them hooked in a month and they'll be with you a long time :D

Yes, I'm a full time trainer at a privately owned gym, so I usually on average do 6-8 hours a day, but usually by Friday and Saturday I am only about 3-4 hours a day, so it varies... But my clients trust me enough to 'prescribe' the appropriate amount of sessions to see the results they want, so that's why I'm always busy...

I'm doing it mobile, taking my kettlebell and chin-up bar to peoples houses so I could never do that many people. But I think 20 clients a week at £35 a session is not a bad target.

True.. very true... one thing you might want to do is do more 'buddy' training then... see if your current clients have anyone that they'd like to work out with, so then you're training two people in one hour ;)

Dex hit it head-on!
Instead of one client paying you $65 a session, train 2 clients at once for $80 a session!
You're now making $80 and they are each paying only $40!

win-win, baby!

I have just changed my prices from $75 an hour or $40 a half hour
to $65 a session

a session is a session...not time assigned. I design your program. If it takes you an hour to complete it, then it's an hour session. If it takes 30 minutes, then thats what it is.

I let people know it will be between 30 and 60 minutes, averaging about 45, depending on the fitness level of the client.

I just go for a full hour, if it takes an hour, good, if it does, then we do it again... :D (By the way, that's how much I make... I actually charge $75/hr, the club I work at gets half and then I get half)

I was working for a gym for quite a while, making $35 per session, doing about 30 a week. Now I am independant and rent a facility. It is harder to get clients that way, but I now make $75-$100 per session and work 20 - 25hrs a week. Rent costs me 1k a month. So I went from working almost full time, and just over 3k a month to working part time and making over 7k a month.

Practice and get good at what you do in the gym. Then learn the marketing end of things and go independent. It is an awesome lifestyle. Set your own hours, enjoy plenty of free time to roll around in all your dough.

The only problem is that it is very difficult starting out with your own business. Once you get rolling its gravy though. If you are the type that likes to work a lot of hours, you can be looking at 12-15k a month within your first couple of years.

Ya, I applied to Lifetime Fitness, but then once they said I had the job, and started to tell me how to train, I told them to turn it sideways and stick it where the sun don't shine... So now I recently work at this club, and now my boss was the head personal trainer director for lifetime :p Pardon my language... but working for corporate sucks!

:D hehe...hey what certification do you have?...ACSM, NSCA, ACE, NFPT(i have this one ...but lifetime doesnt take the damn thing), NASM, NCSF, IFPA,...

Wow.. Lifetime didn't accept a certification?! that's a first... at least it's not as bad as Gold's Gym... heck, they have some of their front desk workers as trainers... They're so bad they rub their necks and say "oh my glutes hurt!"... :p

I have NASM right now, and I plan on keeping that, and then adding CSCS... even thinking of Paul Chek's basic if i can afford it
