How much can YOU bench?

How much can you bench, completing 8-10 reps straight? I'm not asking you to go out and try a lot, because you might pull something, but generally how much can you do (or are you pretty sure you can do?).

I think posts like this will be interesing and inspiring. Rather than the 'I need help....' posts we always get (which are ok too).

I can bench about 155 lbs.

3 sets of 8 i can barely do 105, my one rep max is 135, but I just started working out in the last few months, at first best i could do was like 95 three times, so its nice to see improvement.

im not really sure...ive been doing dumbell press in lieu of barbell bench press for the last 8 weeks or so. for a set of 8-10 reps i can use the 75 lb dumbells on a good day.

Well dno I'm working out for 5 years now (started when I was fifteen) and my max is only 220 lbs ... (10 times that is)
but I had the same max last year and even two years ago :(
don't seem to gain power on my pecs :s who knows what the problem is ?

Eros - What is your current chest workout like? as far as exercise, reps, sets, weights ?

BTW I bench only 165 lbs... which isn't bad for a soccer player...:D

well I do chest 2 times per week (togheter with triceps)
4 excercises and 4 sets per ex
12, 10, 8 and 8 reps with increasing weight

to start bench press (duh)
incline bench press/dumbell press (alternating)
then chest press
incline flyes

that's bout it .. yeah no decline stuff

That seems like a lot. I experiment with workouts. Try lifting chest once a week. Or do upper chest one day, rest for at least 24 hrs, then do upper chest. Two of my friends got great results, and they don't lift too much for each muscle group. Another friend of mine overtrains, he has gained results, but seems to be throwing away most of his time.

225 for 8 reps. However, I take the bar down to about 1 inch above my chest. It doesnt touch it. I think I'm going to start touching my chest though.

That is always a good thing.

the reason I didnt touch my chest is that i heard once your shoulders go too far back, they can pop out. Plus I heard having 1 inch above your chest is just as good as letting it hit your chest. So I decided to go for the injury free way to get buff and ma chest keeps gettin bigger and bigger!!

You don't know how many times I've argued over the topic of bench press and how far you go down....lol... and finally some people that understand.... There as been research on how the bench press is bad for your shoulders... if you are interested in an article about it, I can post it...
