How many days?

I was just wondering if it matters how many days you work out. I tend to workout 5. Sometimes however, I workout or jog about 30 even on Saturday and Sunday. I have heard you should give your muscles a rest, so what do some of you think?:blush5:
 
I'm no expert, but I am losing weight to get into the Air Force, and my recruiter told me that I should work out three times a week.
 
Usually I spend about 30 min. on the treadmill running, jogging, and walking. Then I hit the eliptical (sp?) for another 30 min. Every other day I do weight lifting with my arms and legs. Any suggestions on anything that I could change would be helpful.
