how many carbs?

hey, im on a pretty stable, calorie counting diet. i try to limit fats, sugars as much as possible, but i dont really watch carbs. i eat a lot of cereal and am concerned if this will affect my weight loss, as its pretty high in carbs.

I'm a 6'4'' 220lb male, so i'm just looking for an idea of how many carbs i should limit my self to. also i'm not very educated on the different types of carbs, but my main source is cereals, like cheerios and specialK.

thanks

I eat alot of cereal as well... cereal is not bad for you. yes it has carbs but they are healthy carbs that your body will use for energy later in the day! A bowl for breakfast or lunch is good for you, it keeps you back from eating more fatty foods and cereal is usually pretty filling, because of the fiber. If you are active at all you will need some carbs. as long as you are not adding sugar to your cereal you should be fine. if you want to lose a few pounds try eating cereal for breakfast and lunch for about a week or two... youll be suprised what crappy food you dont eat at lunch and youll lose some weight! Good Luck!!

I think it's a shame that junk like the Atkin's diet has made people fear carbs. Carbs are the body's primary fuel. Personally, being a vegetarian, my carb intake is around 50% of my caloric intake; so my ratio of carbs/protein/fats is around 50/30/20. If you are doing a lot of building you may want to use a 40/40/20 ratio. Just try to stick with complex carbs. Have you checked out You can track your ratios there. Good Luck! :)
