I was thinking about running (3-4 miles) sometime in the afternoon at around 5 or 5:30 PM and going to the gym at around 10 PM and doing my usual routine (about 12 sets, each 10-12 reps) for whatever muscle group im doing. Is that affective? I hear you shouldn't do too much cardio if your going to lift later since that weakens your body and you don't have as much energy to pump into your muscles when you do hit the gym. In addition, about how long should I rest in between running and lifting?
