how long should soreness last

My pecs get sore for about 2-4 days after I work out. Is the soreness supposed to last that long or am I over doing it?

I typically am sore for 2-4 days after I workout. That is the sign of a good workout. I'd be more concerned if you are not getting sore. Then you know you need to change up your routine or push a little harder. As long as you are getting stronger/bigger/leaner over the long term you are probably OK.
 
definately...it takes a while to fully recover...i dont think that a lot of people realize that, especially with the chest muscles. i'll be in the gym and ill see people bench pressing 3-4 times a week...maybe some bodies can handle that, but most can't...

Yeah, I was a bit worried, because I heard if your "too sore" your breaking down your muscles and you'll get no results. Anyway, the amount of weight I do has gone up, and I think my chest is getting better.
