How important are the shoulder muscles in increasing your bench-press?

I weigh 165 and currently rep 150 in four sets of 4-5 reps. This has become my plateau and I'm trying to break it. After doing the four sets of 150, I do 5 more sets of descending weight (145, 140, 135, 130, 125) to make sure that I cover my pecs as best as I can.

I also focus on my triceps, but I only do weighted tricep dips, so I'm not sure whether I should be adding more variety to my tricep workouts.

And back to the main point, I've never really focused on my shoulders until yesterday, when I started doing the barbell military press and lateral raises.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether I'm on the right track in focusing on the shoulders or whether there's something else I should be doing?

Yea your on the right track. Have you ever tried DB bench just for like a some help with stabalizing muscles? I dont know if it really worked but I use it and have seen changes in my bench dont know if thats why. I am using Bill Starrs program right now for bench but only the second week. Swimming can also help build shoulder muscles if your bored of regular cardio.

You should be adding variety to every part of your workout.

For boosting your bench and improving supporting muscles, Google " Twelve Weeks to Super Strength by Ian King". You will find it on T-nation and it is a good routine.

the delt's and tri's are important but working on your lat's is very handy too, i dont know if you do them but you could try some row's or pulldown's. but they helped me alot.
