How I lost weight in the past

As a kid and teenager I had always been overweight. Finally when I was 17 which was about 7 years ago one day I told myself "Alright I'm fed up with this and I'm going to lose weight". 4-5 months later I lost 50 pounds. I did this by eating healthy, watching my portion sizes, 30 minutes of cardio every day, and lifting weights/ doing push ups et cetera.

For the first time in my life I went from being made fun of for being too fat to being made fun of for being too skinny:hurray: After this significant weight loss the next 2 years I kept working out and perhaps grew a bit more I put on 20 pounds (this was good as I began to look less scrawny). But, ever since then my weight has gradually climbed up to where I am 50 pounds overweight again.

But, this time I can't seem to stick to the same plan. Perhaps being a full grown man I need to consider higher portion sizes than I did back then and need to be adjusted. But, otherwise I just cannot find the motivation.

Seeing as I have done this before, I know it can be done again. But, this time it just seems to be more difficult.

Look around you and inside of you for that extra modivation. Health is usually a good one. Is there an activity you use to love you can't do anymore? Do you have loved ones? Maybe clothes or your look? Something to help that extra push.

I agree with Jericho. Health is a great reason to lose weight, but sometimes it's a vague one. Doing something now to stave off issues in the future can be a hard thing to keep up with. I have a whole list of reasons I want to lose, health, vanity, nicer clothes, more energy, etc.

But, what really got me going was a huge reward. Is there something you'd like to do, something big, that you feel you can't? Bonus if it's something your weight is keeping you back from. For me, I've always wanted to take scuba lessons, but felt I shouldn't spend the money on myself. (not to mention the mental image of myself in a wetsuit at my current weight! *shudder*) My husband and I decided that if I reached my goal weight, my reward is that I can take the lessons. That thought gave me the extra motivation to start and do it right.

Oddly, now I often forget that I get scuba lessons at the end of this. It's a bonus and sometimes helps me exercise when I don't feel like it. But I'd keep going at this point even if I found out that I couldn't take the lessons because I'm so excited about not being fat anymore.

So, maybe something like that might help you feel more motivated.

I'd agree with what's been said, you have to find your own motivation as it's different for all of us.

If you consistently find you can't stick with your program, maybe start by tweaking it to something that you CAN stick with so you can concentrate on meeting your goals for the day or week instead of sweating the ones you didn't. Doing something is better than nothing, there's no rule that says it has to be all or none. And those successes help to inspire more successes.

i know what you mean

about 4 months ago i was loosing 1 or 2lbs a week steadily but now i just cant seem to get back into it! but today i just said to myself put down that food your starting now! i understand your frustration but you just have to get on with it. but i think your right about different portion size. because your a man try as much protine and as little fat as possible. a friend of mine practically lives on protine shakes and he had a grreat body at one stage, now hes just wierdly muscels, like a CK model!
but try a hight protine diet as this wont make you gain fat and keep you full!

good luck

I would focus on getting in good healthy nutrition into your diet. Start small and build upon it. Eat an apple everyday. Have a cheese omlet for breakfest, eggs are an amazing source of protein, vitamins and minerals. Try and eat a lot of protein if you can afford it. Watch your bread intake and carbs in general. Take a multivitamin and drink lots of water.

Have a specific workout and time scheduled for everyday and stick to it. Talk is cheep, make it happen! You can!!
