How I lost 30 lbs in one summer

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I am someone who has recently had weight loss success under a diet/exercise plan of my own. I am in no way here to brag, only to share some of my knowledge as far as what worked for me.

I am a 17 year old male, who weighed 205 pounds at the beginning of last summer. Here are a few things that I followed to help me get down to 175 by October:

1. 1 meal a day

Some people may think that this is unsafe, really difficult, etc. but here I sit, 30 lbs down, completely healthy. And 1 meal a day DOESN'T mean that I only ate once a day. It simply means that you should have, well, 1 meal a day. I guess that's kind of self explanatory. For me it was always dinner.

2. ALWAYS eat a little as soon as you get up.

And when I say little, I mean little. When I was losing weight I would get up, have a piece of bread or a cup of yogurt, and end it at that. From what I know, the reason that eating something in the morning is so important is because it starts your metabolism, and that's why I always, ALWAYS ate in the morning. Have something small to get your metabolism going, and then let your metabolism burn away the fat.

3. Eat every 6 hours, habitually.

From my understanding, when your metabolism gets going, it'll burn calories for about 6 hours or so before slowing down, and it gets started up again by your body digesting food. So, based on this knowledge, every six hours or so, have a little something. Again, unless this is dinner, make it small: handful of pretzels, piece of toast, yogurt, etc.

4. Eat until you're full, but don't stuff yourself.

This is one that is tough to do if you're hungry, but one to absolutely keep in mind. Instead of having seconds of dinner, call it quits at firsts. Just eat a healthy amount, but not so much that you feel heavy afterward or would find physical activity difficult.

5. No eating food that is in general bad for you.

This doesn't mean be a health nut, but use common sense. No Oreos, ice cream, potato chips, fast food, etc. Obviously this one is tough for most dieters, but you only need will power. When I was losing weight, I used to tell myself that eating these things was simply not an option. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't. I work at a mini golf course that serves ice cream over the summer (which would be free to me), and I went from June to the end of summer without having one by simply telling myself that it wasn't an option, so why even think about it?

6. Exercise every day

Another simple, generic one. This doesn't mean that you have to be a gym rat, just do something to kick your metabolism into overdrive. As you work out, your body heat rises, turning fat in your body into liquid, which is a much more usable resource of energy than solid fat. It doesn't even have to be anything that takes too long of a time. I rode an exercise bike for 20 minutes a day before my meal. Or, if I was working at the mini golf course (that conveniently also had a rock wall that I could climb for free) I would climb the rock wall for about 20 minutes. Just something to stay active and get my body working to catch up with the energy I'm using.

7. Make healthy decisions

I know that everyone on this board has heard this one a million times before, but even if it doesn't actually help you lose weight, it'll help you feel like you are. Park far away from the place you're going, push yourself up instead of just getting up, hop up stairs instead of just climbing them, flex your abs if you're standing in line. Little things like this help you feel like you're making your way to being a healthy person, and help in little bits too. Every little bit counts!

I'm certainly not guaranteeing that this method works, or that it's healthy, or that anything about metabolism/the way the body works is right. Everything in this article is simply my perception of what the body is, and by following these guidelines, I lost weight that had been bothering me for years. I am 172 pounds now and hope to get to 160 by June (though it's a little tough during winter time ). Good luck to everyone, I hope I helped!
