How fast does muscle grow? What can I expect?

Alright, so I'm 15 Y/O, 6 foot 1, 240ish lbs. My main form of weight loss now is weights. I do about 30-45 minutes of all forms of weight exercises, one after the other.

I used to box at the age of 13 or so, and I remember having a lot more muscle mass. That's basically what I'm trying to achieve here, burn the excess fat and gain back the muscle I once had.

So, for someone my build, does anyone know how much muscle I would build and how fast I would build it? Does it just differ from person to person?

Thanks for any help.

It definately differs from person to person. I remember when I was in highschool and doing weight training classes they told me that my muscle wasnt building as fast because my body hadnt matured enough (I was about 15 at the time). You are right at the age where your body should be transforming and when it does you should see more growth. But remember, it doesnt happen quickly. It takes time for everybody to build muscle. The thing I noticed is that I didnt see much difference in terms of muscle mass but my muscles were more toned and I felt a strength increase. That all happened long before I actually saw any muscle grow.

If your main goal to lose weight is lifting, then don't expect huge muscle gains, mainly because your already eating in a deficit i assume. To make huge gains in the gym, it requires a caloric surplus for any significant amount. Dont get me wrong you can get a bit stronger if really work at it, but as you lose weight, dont expect to gain too much muscle.

Ahh, is that how it works? So I guess I should just keep weight lifting until a healthy weight, then look into how to build muscle mass and firmness e.t.c.?

Thanks for the help!

Yeah I've been warned people might firm up instead of stock up on muscle. I was thinking of joining a gym after I lose 60 odd lbs, start focusing on body building e.t.c.

Wrong kinda muscle ... thats not a muscle anyway! :p

My fragile 15 year old mind is scarred for life. :(

Dont lie, i have a 16yo son who assures me that thats all they think about ... oh and cars ... muscle cars? :D

Nope, your son is the only one who thinks about it all the time. Everyone else is normal. :p

But yeah, back on track, muscle toning is what I can aim for as a short term goal I guess, thanks for the help.
