how does weight training slow down fat loss?

im really getting frusterated over this ...
i want to lose a good amount of body fat .. but im always hearing everywhere that u cant do both.
then some places i hear you can do both and it will be the best way.

i dont understand how weight training would slow down your fat loss ... since you are building more muscle ... which will burn more calories. for me i dont use any gainers or anything ... and i dont have a high cal diet ... so i know im not getting absolutley max gains ... but u'd think that id still get ok gains with losing bodyfat at the same time.

fatlosstips.com sounds proper that you can lose weight and weight lift at the same time, and you will get very good results ...

but then i hear things from tom venuto where he says you have to choose one or the other first. and if you want to lose max fat and make max gains then you have to know some deep secrets and blah blah blah.

can someone just re-assure me that weight training does not get in the way of fat burning ... or whatever is true.
thanks

yeh man, its just that if you want serious muscle, then the cardio stops you getting as much. but thats only for stupid bodybuilders.

no, weight training does not get in the way of weight loss. its needed to maintain strenght and lean bodyweight when trying to lose bodyfat

Yeah, the rule of thumb is that most people will either lose a lot of fat and gain a little muscle, or gain a lot of muscle and lose a little fat, only the ones with great genetics can do both. However you NEED to continue to weight train as part of any fatloss program

You can gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. It's not that difficult and bodybuilding paranoia suggests you can't do both at the same time. But physiology shows you can. The more advanced you get (if you're a bodybuilder) the harder it becomes to do both at the same time because your body doesn't really see a need to have so much muscle mass past a certain point. But unless you're an advanced bodybuilder don't worry about it. Strength training will not hinder fat loss in anyway. On the contrary, it will help it. It also will not hinder your strength gains except in extreme circumstances.

thank you promethius,
thats encouraging to hear.
i see what you are saying.
thanks for the reassurance :)
