how do you make yams?

I know very little about cooking and am wondering what ways you guys make your yams?

Do you just boil them and eat them raw? Boil them and stick them in the oven?

Use something to add flavor?

I'm looking for healthy recipes, not candied yams etc.

I wash them, then cut them up and boil them with the skins on for about 25 minutes. Then I peel them (much easier when they are cooked than raw), and mash them with a little butter and cinnamon.

I wrap them in foil, very tightly ad completely so nothing excapes and then bake them. I eat alot of them. another good way to keep the nutrient content high is do wrap them tightly in sullfane (microwave wrap0 and nuck'em.

I eat those, or red potatoes, as snacks durin the day. it helps me keep my meal count up, and my carb count high, with a fairly low calorie. I rate a decent size yam at about 200- 250, and the red potatoes at 110. who knows what they really are...hahahahaha

p.s. I eat alot!

If you're talking about sweet potatoes I usually wrap them in saran wrap and microwave them (150% the time you'd use on a regular potato the same size)

I put cinnamon and stevia or splenda on them

I cut them into 2-5 pieces depending on size. Then I boil them for about 15-25 minutes. Then I eat them. They are pretty good plain.

Assuming you mean sweet potatoes, the simplest is to wash, poke a bunch of holes in the skin with a fork, and microwave until hot. Then eat (including the skin).

Eat with some fat containing food if you want to absorb the beta carotene better. (Obviously, you want to choose good fats, not bad fats like hydrogenated oils.)

I just made sweet potato fries last night and they tasted just like candy!

1 sweet potato peeled and cut into strips so they look like fries
1 egg white, whipped up a little with a fork
Mix together in a ziploc bag
Spray a cookie sheet with Olive Oil spray and place potatoes in a single layer on it
sprinkle with Spenda and Cinnamon
Bake at 475 for 30 min

it chops them into bits and then it puts them in a covered dish (with a little water - im talking a couple spoonfuls) in the oven

later it takes them out and it eats them

I like to cut up sweets, russets, whites and reds into tater tot size peices with skin on, shake them with some crushed red pepper, salt and a dash of cinamon and bake them in the oven.
