How do i maintain a big butt while running long distance?

I am a fan of running 5k's and have noticed that when I run long distance my body becomes very lean muscled and loses a lot of mass. However I would like to have stronger thighs and a bigger butt like Tyson Gay.

I understand that Tyson Gay is a short distance sprinter and I run long distance. I was wondering if there were exercises I could do that would get me a more Tyson Gay-like physique (bigger thighs and butt) while still running long distance? Would including squats, deadlifts and similar exercises help?

Absolutely, squat and deadlift, heavy and often! But remember, although you can make significant changes to your body with consistent long term exercise combined with proper nutrition and rest, your basic body shape is genetically predetermined. You can't change the length of your thigh bones, or the ratio of your quads to your glutes, or where your body tends to store excess body fat, etc.

yeah, I'd agree with the above- most of it is genetics- for want of a better description, a singer like Beyonce works out just as a singer/dancer like many others, yet looking at her physique you can see she has hips and a curvy figure however muscular she is with it. Theres no doubt she works out yet she cannot override all of her genetics.

I used to be anorexic. Like BMI 13.5-sent-to-inpateint-hospital anorexic. Both my parents are "apple" shape with big bellys. One of the things that used to irritate the hell out of me was no matter how tiny I got, I always had a belly which made me look like I was expecting. It reduced but it never really went away! No matter what I did, there would always be genetics to override my actions.

If you already have a "big butt" which is proportionally larger then the norm for your figure, your unlikely to lose that but it will reduce to some extent. What you could do is tone it like dswithers suggests with squats and lunges and other muscle training exercises. This way it'd be firmer rather then moving along of its own accord...

Maybe read up on the person your thinking of and see if they have any tips or do any specific upper thigh type training.

Sounds like its your genetics, although if you starved for a month, you could lose enough muscle mass to appear to lose you god given form. I say this because I've seen anorexia and it's not pretty.

if it's genetic then it's definitely unchangeable. however, you can improve that by choosing the right exercise as well as the right diet meal.
