how do i know when i reach a plateau

how do i know when i reach a plateau with running (burning fat)?

hi ..
i am wondering how will/do i know when ive reached a plateau in my exercises?
wat i mean is ... how will i know when to up the intesity of my running/any exercise ... because right now its not super hard but definatley not easy for the usual 8km run (with bout 5 fairly big hills).
i dont want to be doing all this and my body being so effecient that its barely burning any calories.
thnx

You'l probably know when to start running a bit further because you'll just feel like the run your doin know is too easy and you;ll feel you can run further. But when you do start to go further you should only add on a little extra not bung on a mega amount because then itll be too hard. I think it best to add on short amounts more often rather that large amounts every now and then.

generally if your working out and your gains either stop totally or you end up losing strength you hit a wall, or platue "sp I know". Your best bet when that happens is to switch to another type of routine. What happens is your body has found an "easy" way to perform that given exercise so you must shock the body so to speak by doing something different.

hehe
its ok knogz ... what you said helped also because i do work out also. i just upped my weight and seein better results (i think)
thnx ne ways

I think I good way to test your progress in cardio would be to run a mile on a track. Like once every 2-4 weeks to see if your speed has increased any, you can also jot down your heart rate and so forth and your overall mental state afterward. This is one way to check your progress. Sorry I couldn't help more, I'm gonna make a note to study more on the subject that you brought up. It's a good question.

measure yourself everyweek with a tape measure, if you see that you the trend you want is not being accomplished always look to your diet first to make sure you are eating 6 times a day, not skipping meals and you're eating enough carbs/protien/fat for your goal. Next see if you are overtraining yourself, if you are take a week off at least and start on lower weights when you get back. Thats a lot of running though...are you planning on wanting to look like a marathon runner?

heh no not really plannin on looking like a marathon runner ..
i just like challenging myself and want to be sure that all the running im doing is going to good use.
i guess ill just keep doin what is hard for me ... now i just make things harder when i feel they are easy.
thnx for the inpute everyone

Well running may be hard for you, how about adopting the challenge of trying to lift as much weight and get bigger than everyone around you? You wont get big if you keep running farther, I doubt you will get upper body strength, you'll just gain endurance which is hard to show off! Its great when people want to challenge themselves, I see the challenge of lifting more and more every week, but to each his own.

oh ethan ...
im down for both .... i challenge myself with lifting also ...
as of right now tho ... i dont have enuf weights for all the exercises i want to do ... so im soon going to get new weights/dumbells ect so i can start up again and gain new muscle.

im not trying to get bigger by running ... i just need to get this bodyfat low ... just for now ... just something i want to do.

i love challengin myself with lifting ... because everytime i up the weight ... i love feelin the results afterwards .... and i hate it when liftin gets to the point where its fairly easy to lift and u just dont feel the resistance as much ... which results in .. well .. not so good results.

thats why im so anxious for new weights and such.
but as far as the running goes .... its not hard for me ... but i can make it hard ... the trail i do is 4.1km long ... i run it twice with no breaks and there are 8 challenging hills for the 2 times around .. they definatley make things more interesting.
but yea ... just to clear things up
