How do i know if im overtraining

I was wondering how i know if I'm overtraining my triceps. My first 3 exercises in one of my routines is BP, ShoulderPress, skullcrushers. Well yesterday i couldnt finish my last set of skullcrushers with the same weight i completed them with earlier this week. It was a 5 day rest since the last time i did this routine.

Today they are actually feeling kinda weak. Usually the day after, they feel like they are ready to rip out of my shirt. It's possible i just had poor form on the skullcrushers the previous week which made it easier to finish. I just want to make sure im not over training them.

I will probably get crap for this.. but you might be a hardgainer.
You might only want to work each muscle group ONCE per week. Then again it could be a whole slew of variables (tired..dehydrated..etc)
Consider the possibilty that you might need more rest.
I personally do the each-muscle-once-per-week-thing. That doesnt mean you should, but it does mean it works for some.

who once? im a hard gainer, 3x a week, fullbody works for me.
If you are tiered and have a higher heart rate at resting that normal you are probobly overtraining.

i never heard about the one muscle once per week thing.. have you gained alot with that Niceone, and are you a hardgainer?
how do you do it?

Ill give it another week and see if it doesnt improve. When i used to lift years ago, i would only give myself 3 days rest and i was advancing my weight almost weekly at first. But i was also just doing a day of just arm isolation exercises twice a week.

This is the first time ive done this split workout doing compound execises. I;ve been doing this routine for about 2 weeks now.

Hey Karky,
I am a hard gainer in the respect that I can eat just about anything and not gain weight. I need to hit my muscles HARD and let them rest in order to get results. If I train a lot, I dont make any progress. If you are doing full body 3 times per week and it is "working" I dont think you are a hardgainer. Hardgainers or ectomorphs require much more rest in order to heal up from their workouts. You might have a fast metabolism which is a trait of ectomorphism.

I have been on Anthony Ellis' Gaining mass program for a year now. ( I spent a fair amount of time off with a really crappy injury i sustained in a disc due to an injury at work) But In the time that i did train and follow his dietry outlines, I gained 25 pounds in much less than a year. Not to mention I learned a LOT about nutrition and and other fitness related stuff.
Your best weapon is to know yourself. Once you learn what your body reacts well to, you should go far.
I'll try to get some before and after pics up soon.

If you are overtraining, you will be tired, might feel under the weather, your body will not be responding to your workouts, you will not feel mentally ready to workout, nor will you want to go to the gym.....there is a whole host of symptoms.

I believe for most, that training a muscle more than once per week is overtraining. The exception to that rule is a full body routine. The reason it is an exception is the fact that you are doing the same volume as the one per week routine, just spread out over a few days.

I, personally, the majority of the time, train each muscle group once per week. My current split looks like this.

Mon: Chest and Bis and Forearms
Tues: Legs
Wed: Off
Thurs: Back and Tris
Friday: Shoulders and Abs
