How can this possibly happen? Please read. 7 Pounds gain in 24 Hours?

Just playing devils advocate, I don't think we should make total light of the upward fluctuation either. Its not ALWAYS water. People love to make that excuse, but we know after we had a bunch of excess calories some of those several extra pounds could indeed be fat, not water. And when its been a few days and that scale is not fluctuating back down, then you can bet you're on the gain. So dont sleep on that either, thinking its all water and keep doing the same thing. After a few days of it not going back down..yup..you've gained back some weight (like me right now ).

You are probably speaking the truth here. Its not 100% water. maybe some food inside your I.System still, maybe some fat too, and water..... :jump:

Does anybody know why the human bdy retains water?

water, food, and dont forget #2. plus its summer. i dont know about you, but i am always a few pounds heavier (due to tissue swelling) in the summer than i am in the winter. no matter what i do it wont come off!

Yeah I agree. #2 is a big one. Sorry but its the truth, When you dont go for 2-3 days (constipated) it adds up. We all know its not fat but it still bugs you. :rotflmao:

Finally!!!!! 165 again. So basically, it took me 6 days to get rid of all the water retention weight.

6 freaking days???????? Man!!!!!! :)

Yeah it sucks!! But not as bad as if it were all fat and you were still carrying it around with you. I try not to get excited when I see a small gain because I am also lifting weights and that means building muscles, which means I am going to lose fat but the scale remains the same. I always remind myself of this fact. Stay on the plan and it will be worth it in the end.

I would def. continue with my journey. Its not over yet till I hit 145. The thing is that It gets harder by the day. But thats the fun of it i guess.....

Don't focus so much on hitting a specific number on the scale, only you and your doctor will ever know what that number is - instead focus more on what you're seeing in the mirror, how your clothes are fitting and above all, how you are feeling...

It may not be just water weight. Not all of that food is fully digested by the very next morning, that food weighs something too. I think all of us have experienced a large rise in the scale a day after a really bad meal.

I find it more useful to weigh every single day because then I become aware of my body's fluctuations (e.g. noting that the 7 pounds is now gone like 2 days later). Consequently I dont get as upset or defeatist about a few extra pounds. However, that gain gives me a mini "wake-up call" which freaks me out enough to be good at least for the next few days, lest those pounds of water "turn into fat".

When the scale starts fluctuating out of my usual 3 pound range (its probably a larger range for a larger person), I know I've either lost fat (if I hit a *new low*) or gained actual fat and not water (if I know I've been "bad" and now I'm fluctuating one or more pounds higher than before--which is indeed the case for me now).

Also, if you choose a day as you're weigh-in day where you happen to be at the high end of your normal fluctuation, you may get unduly upset that you "lost nothing", when the very next day you may fluctuate below your normal and actually MISS that NEW LOW.

Personally for me weighing every day has given me the reality check I needed to maintain my weight. Its a struggle and a biatch managing your food intake somewhat based on the scale (I've been doing this for at least 20 yrs), but for people like us who have to watch our weight it can be worth it in order to maintain (you hear a lot of stories about people re-gaining). Of course you can also do this with a once a week weigh-in but it may not be as quick to catch an upward trend. To each his/her own I guess.
good article.

"Death begins in the colon" An nobel prize winning doctor said.
Ususally when people pack on a coupld extra lbs in one day, it's not fat, it's 'poo'. If you aren't 'going' within 2-4 hours after each meal then you are 'backed up' with waste in your intestines and colon. This weighs lbs not to mention full of toxins and bad stuff.
