I would love to be able to eat tuna fish because it makes you feel satisfied and it is not fattening. However, I can't help it and the smell makes me want to vomit. It smells like something dead.

How did you start to like it?

Forget it! If it's not for you, it's not for you.
There's plenty of other fish which has the same effect - have you tried sardines? (Probably they're more diety packed in tomato sauce rather than oil.) Or there's wonderful vegetables - or fruit! Or fungi, come to that - all sorts of things out there to eat which aren't tuna! :)

i'll bet you think tuna looks like this...

in retrospect, i reread the intro to his book and i now remember this as being a low-fat, high-carb recipe heavy book from the days when low-fat was considered good. on the upside it IS low/ no sugar. most carbs come from natural sources with high(er) fiber, so in moderation, i still use some of these concoctions.

I actually don't care how it looks. I only mind the smell and flavor. I know I can eat many other things but I wonder if I can get to like it somehow. If it would be up to me I would only eat potatoes, rice, and pasta. Thank you for sharing. This salad sounds good.

the "look" pictured is really a metaphor for the taste.
fresh tuna tastes nothing like processed tuna.
in the recipe, i can vouch that the addition of sesame flavor is a positive enhancement.

by the way, the reddish color of fresh tuna is simply an indication of a powerful/ active fish and is quite prevalent in all tuna species. as in the processed versions, when cooked the red color fades.

another thing about A.H. recipes... he had a show on PBS long ago and watching him making this dressing i remember his indication that the part where he whisks the yogurt and powdered milk together is an important step. i forget what sort of bonding effect he was talking about, but i do recall that it should not be skipped or ignored.

You can eat just about anything without gagging by plugging your nose while you eat. Without the sense of smell, your taste sensations are severely retarded. You might see young children do this when having to take medicine.

I'm curious why you are adamant about eating something you don't seem to fully enjoy. Let thy food be thy medicine and all, but it doesn't have to taste or smell like medicine.

Have you tried a whole plant based meal plan? When done intentionally, it can be very satisfying and is not fattening either. Of course, knowledge about what a whole plant based food plan is will benefit you in finding one suited to your preferences (satisfying and not fattening, among other possibilities). Do some research and keep an open mind. Focus on sea vegetables if you want to find a powerhouse of nutrition in the spirit of your tuna endeavor. You might be surprised what's out there.
