Honey, We're Killing the Kids

Has anyone seen this show on TLC yet?

It certainly is an eye-popper. Kinda made me wish I could have (and still can) peak into the future and see what I look like at age 40 if I continue my eating habits.

Though I think the show is a lil extreme in that they made the projected BEFORE shots look really bad by making them ungroomed and wearing kinda regular clothes. And the projected AFTER shots are much more flattering wearing suits, nicer glasses, combed hair, etc.

Still though... What an eye-popper to make a point.

I caught that show once! It really is an eye opener! For us and certainly for them to see how their kids are going to look if they continue the way they are!

I'd never seen the show but I wanted to.

As far as the pics go , thats sooo typical of this world. If you ever see before and after pics of someone who's lost weight, 8 of 10 times the before pic they will have unruley hair, no makeup, bad clothes and the after pic is always of them smiling real big and looking like they just had a makeover!

I find that interesting as well, how they show the before at 40 pictures in the most unflattering light, as though they are trying to say that if a person is overweight they can't possibly be successful. I am not at healthy weight, but I'm also not living in a trailer park eating top ramen smoking a pack of Camels a day, with half my teeth missing.

The diets of some of these children though, is absolutely revolting, I suppose with these parents though, scare tactics are what works, if it actually does work for more than just the television show.

I also wonder if it is childhood habits that cause weight gain... When I was a kid, I wasn't a skinny waif, but I wasn't overweight either. I was extremely athletic thru college pretty much, I never ate candy, or presweetened cereals, I only drank excessively in college. I really think it's the lifestyle that one gets in their 20s that determines their future.... I started working constantly and had little time for me... I didn't get to the gym I didn't have "me" time, socializing consisted of not riding our bikes but going out for drinks and dinner... and that's when the weight started coming on.

They're probably not trying to make overweight people look unsuccessful and messy, per se (though some probably are because perpetuating that stereotype sells products) but because there's probably not as big a difference in the Before and After shots if both pics had them dressed for their bodies, with the right hair cut, flattering lighting and a happy smile.
