Welcome Kevmac. If you are looking for support and a wide variety of advice you have come to the right place! And if I could give any advice right from the get go, I'd say, start walking every day if you can. If you went on a med-long walk in the morning and short-med walk at night, that would REALLY begin to improve things. When I was at my heaviest, and had no energy from cancer recovery, this was all I could do. I couldn't do any Gym work at all.

But once I started walking say, a mile and a half at night and mabey 1.5 to 2 miles in the morning, it really was tiring and hurt at first but then began to feel great, and the weight began to melt off. It also brought me out of that damn depression that broods while being jailed at home.

Just make sure you drink a TON of water, and lay off of soda, so you have energy. Most studies and nutritionists will tell you that a brisk walk with plenty of water is better for fat burning than anything out there.

i must admit i dont drink very much water, i drink diet pop, tea, coffee, i have tried in the past just drinking water but it never seems to last very long, at the moment i have got myself in a bit of a rut with regards to walking because i just dont leave the house, i just keep thinking everyone is mocking me and i spend most of my time worrying what people are thinking about me, at 6ft 5 and 460lbs you would have thought i was big enough to take insults, but im not, hopefully this will all change when my weight starts to come down, i had lost a couple of years ago 119lbs and i still remember just how good i felt about and with myself unfortunatly it crept back on plus a bit more for good measure, hopefully this time i will get it right, thanks for your replies

Welcome Kev - the support is here whenever you need it, you might consider starting a thread in the online diary section - it helps keep a record, especially when fellow travellers can pop in and offer support and encouragement. Read through other peoples diaries now - there are some inspirational lessons to be found there. There are some great guys here - real fighters taking control of their lifes - you can read their successes and their occasional falls from grace.
The common factor that you will notice is that you CAN take control - you can turn that life around. Its never too late to start again. Good luck on your journey mate.

Welcome, Kev. There is lots of support here. I do believe you can do this. Take each day one at a time! ;)

kevmac, I know you can do it. As far as exercise outside, I decided not to care what people think, I was doing this for my self. Months latter, I have people telling me how great I look & how do I do it.

My wife won't exercise outside so she walks around the house an hour a day. Sort of boring to me.

Kevmac,

Good luck on your weight loss journey! We all know you can do it! It's hard, if anyone knows that it's us. I just joined this site today and I am already addicted lol.

Nice to meet you!
You can do it!

hey there dude and welcome to the best damn site around, you are going to love it, i know i do!!! Ya know i was reading yur earlier post about the water and i would suggest just adding water to your menu along with the other stuff, don't quit th diet soda but make yourself drink a glass of water first, it will make all the diffrence and like om3 said start walking, it took me a while but i am almost up to an hour and now i love it, don't look at it like a chore but like a gift to yourself, because you are worth it my brother;) good luck in your new journy and keep posting , and start a journal it rocks!!! STAR

I had a good suprise at my new weigh class last night and that was i wasnt as heavy as i thought i was, in fact i was 436lbs and not 470lbs, i know this is still a lot of weight to carry around but with my motivation and the great help from this forum i am so sure i am going to reach my long over due goal

That is great to hear that your less than you thought. When I got weighed in initally I thought I was less and boy was I in for a shock when they told me I was 231 lbs when I thought I was 215. They also told me that I had 109 lbs of fat on my body. That's my youngest cousin plus 9 lbs.

You are doing great going to the weight classes and coming on here. Keep it up.

Welcome Kevmac!
We're here to support each other and glad you joined us!
About your water, have you tried Propel or even adding lemon or lime juice to your water? Also, psych yourself by putting it into attractive bottles, just for you!! To me, it's all about baby steps. The weight loss registry is proof of that. Try switching something healthy for something junky each week.
Keep posting and let us know how you are doing!

HIya fitfab40, i will start adding lime into my water to try and take the boredom away from it, i thought it would have been ok when i bought a lot of little 300ml bottles of mineral water but i am finding i still struggle, hopefully with reading your post you have made it easier for me so many thanks

Hey Kevmac- more H2O ideas

Have you tried Crystal Light packets? Just another alternative to plain ole water.
I have some more tips for you too---- Use low sodium chicken broth instead of oil or butter to cook with. It adds lots of great flavor with a lot less fat and calories! You can get the kind in containers that are easy to pour and keep for 2 weeks in the frige.
Also, try whole wheat pastas and brown rice. Use the chicken stock in place of the water for the rice---Yum o!

Hiya fitfab40, cheers for your ideas, i have never heard of the crystal light packets, i now add sliced lemons to a jug of water in the fridge and it makes drinking water so much easier, the only 2 things i ever fry is eggs and potatos, for the eggs i dry fry them with a lid on until the eggs are white then i turn the heat off and they poach in their own steam, for the potatos the diet im following is the slimming world diet plan and we can have either a few potatos and a lot of meat, fish, chicken or i can have very little meat with a lot of potato, rice and pasta, i cook a thing called syn free chips where i can eat as many as i want if im on a less meat day, i pre boil the potatos, drain them and let them stand for a few minites then i chip them up and add them to an oven tray, i spray a little frylite over them and add them to a hot oven, they are lovely, im not a great lover of rice or pasta, i have tried to eat it but i just cant get on with it, once again thanks for your post
