Hit a plateau need some help and Hello

Hey,

This is my first post here. I've read these forums a lot and other sites. This is a great resource and motivation.

Most things discussed here as with other sites have been covered many times and the answer(s) can be found a few threads down.

Same applies, but rather then jacking someone else's thread I'm posting my own.

Basically on 01/01/2010 I weighted 313. Today I weigh 209. 4 pounds less than what I was a at the best shape in my life. So I have seen a great deal of progress.

I'm a male, 6ft 4inches.

I go to the gym 5-6 days per week. I do some weights and have been doing a lot of cardio.

Now to the problem.

I haven't lost weight in the last 9 days. I pretty much either stay at 209, bounce back up a .5lbs or so and go back down. Prior to now weight loss has been steady.

Obviously there is a factor somewhere, what I just don't know.

As far as my "diet" it's pretty constant. No junk food, no desire for it. Without making my initial post too long basically I'm doing the same things as I have from the start of my journey and on the weight loss side it's halted. Still motivated, even more so which is reason is reason I'm posting.

I think it's of 3 things, probably all.

1) My daily calorie intake is in the 1000 range. It does fluctuate but not that much. This is my biggest not struggle but challenge. I feel full off the foods I eat and don't get random cravings or anything, yet from reading nutrition sites and this one that number is low. Today I upped that number to about 1600, I'm trying a different approach for a couple days and seeing how it things go. Maybe my body is slowing my metabolism, but if that's the case why did my patten work till now?

2) The more weight you lose the harder it is to get the last few off. My main concern is not weight loss so much at this point but body fat. Still have some belly fat. Ultimately I'll get my stomach how I want it.

3) My cardio patterns changed recently. Elliptical for example I do 45 minutes. Each week or as needed I up the resistance. Right now I'm around 14-15 on machine with 20 max. While my calories burned increased, my distance traveled did decrease. Machine is reading about 670 cals burned in 45 minutes. Before was maybe 570 but with + a half a mile or so more traveled. I know the cals are not 100% accurate, just giving an example.

I am very glad to hear you upped your calories. I would hope that you give the 1600 more of a chance then a 'couple days', as it will take much longer then that for your body to recover from the low intake you have been providing it for a long time. In addition, to answer your question "why did my pattern work til now", that is because you were in a severe calorie deficit, and thus your body had no choice but to lose weight. You were not even taking in enough calories to sustain your basic body activities, so your body had to use up all calories from food plus get calories from fat and muscle in your body to obtain the energy needed for your daily activities and exercise. That being said, that is not a healthy way to be. 1600 is a vast improvement.

best of luck.

Are you really saying that you lost 104 pounds in about 7 months (313 - 209 = 104 pounds) or is that an error?

Also take a look at how much water you are drinking. How much water are you drinking?

How much rest are you getting per day? Also are you taking time away from exercising?

No that is correct, 313 to 209. I use weightbot an iPhone app to track my weight, and have an accurate scale.

Water is my main drink, other then crystal light. I drink at least 10 cups a day.

Exercise between 5-6 days per days week and lead a pretty active lifestyle.

That is very impressive accomplishment. It is important to step back from that and look at what an amazing thing you have accomplished.

On to practical things though.....

With such an enormous loss, many things could be possible. At this point, you do have a winning formula. Change one thing at a time to see if you can get any results. You will need to be patient to allow for any results to come.

You should be getting about 100 ounces of water (3 liters) of water per day. You are getting about 80 ounces (and some of it is crystal lite). This would be an easy one to test. Check your urine color to see that it is nice pale yellow. If it is dark you may need to increase water.

Give it a try.

Just to give everybody an update. After adjusting my pattern I not only reached what my initial weight goal was but I exceeded it and have been maintaing steady improvement since.

New meal plan gave me a lot more energy, which in return allowed for better workout sessions.

Never felt better in my life.
