Hi all

Im 48 and Im sociophobic , so I have next to no contact with people if possible , even my doctor talks to me over the phone

I am extremely overweight , even standing at the sink and washing-up kicks off back pain so extreme I have to rest for a while

I own three beautiful border collies , and because of how I am they just arent getting the walks they deserve , its just not fair

So i've decided enough is enough and this year im going to lose some of this weight , not just for me , but for them , so they can have the life they deserve to have ... trouble is I have no idea where to start , so I joined here hoping to get some exercise and dietary tips from others who have been where I am now , and hopefully some encouragement too :)

It's a good thing that you have joined a forum. It's a step to overcoming your socialphobia, and I hope you do overcome it.

Best of luck to you in losing weight. It is a New Year, and a new beginning. I'm pretty sure that you will get encouragement on this board, I will encourage you, as we are all aiming for the same goal.

Best of luck for 2012!

A recumbent exercise bike might offer the sort of back support you need but they tend to be pricey.

you could also consider an exercise pedal unit (essentially just the business end of a bike, you use you own chair) which would be much cheaper and should allow similar results.

Also start keeping note of everything you eat and drink (and how much) for a week or two and try totaling your current calorie intake.

There are a variety of diets you can try, I'd suggest a mild calorie deficit.

Try to visit your doctor soon, they should be more that happy to offer additional advice, assistance and support (if they aren't, find a better doctor)

More than anything though, it's worth consulting them before you start exercising due to your back.
