I put on my pants yesterday and they were far tighter than I'd like. Then I sighed, ate a bag of Cheetos and took a nap.

20 year old college student (with college student eating habits) here. I've struggled with my roller-coaster weight since I was probably nine years of age. The weight is likely secondary to the mental health issues, but I think they impact each other almost equally, and I think getting the weight together is the more tangible goal now.

Doesn't help that when I go into the grocery store and compare items the fruits and vegetables cost several times as much as the instant noodles and Cheez Its and butter-covered popcorn ( :lurk5: :( ), but I do what I can.

Pretty addicted to carbs. I've tried to curb it (carb curbing can cause crankiness, clearly) and reach for better options, but then some negative emotion becomes me and I eat all the chips, rice, and potatoes I can locate. I can manage the healthy habits sometimes, but they always crash to the ground by the end of it. I understand that once I'm able to maintain good habits and stop bouncing all over the place as it regards diet, my goals will be more attainable, but for now I'm kind of going nuts or something.

I try to work out for at least a half an hour every morning M-F before beginning my daily routine (and it was working almost regularly for a few weeks there, then we had some snow and the gym was closed for a couple days and I ... fell off the wagon, as it were).

I'm about 165 now (nope. 169 apparently, just weighed myself), 5'3. My goal is to be in the 130s (if even upper 130s) by the time I see June (30 lbs in 4 months is doable, I'd say), but we all understand the challenge.

Being a go-it-alone sort of person, I thought maybe it'd help to read the voyages of others, actively record what it is I'm doing that's wrong (and right, too) so it doesn't seem like everything's futile and in my head, and to kind of share this insanity with a group of people who comprehend it... 'cause those around me sure as hell don't. :svengo:

So, Hi. :)

Welcome!!!

I TOTALLY (omg, TOTALLY) know what you're going through! I'm a student as well, and sometimes it's just easier to pick up something that's already made, and pop it in the microwave, and then plop on the sofa and eat it...that's what I did! And I thought it cost less...

but really, produce (depending on where you live), can be a cheaper by! If you think about it, a lot of the carbs you're eating are just pointless- and they probably make you hungry afterwards! (Thus you consume more, and buy more!) If you were to make your own meals (I know it's a bit of work and time! but totally worth it), with healthier produce/grains/meats, you may find that you eat less, and feel more satisfied!!

It's AWESOME that you've already started exercising routinely. We all get off the wagon- it's just human of us...but you seem like you want your goal, so you have determination- so I'm sure, with a little motivation, you can get right back on it!

If you'd like, you could start a diary here! they're a great way for you to record what you eat and exercise daily- plus it can let the community drop by and give you motivation! They're also a great thing to surf through- you should check out some of them! I bet you will find that many of us are like you, and that we do fall off the wagon!

Nice meeting you! And i hope to see you around :)

Hiya Xoch,

"I put on my pants yesterday and they were far tighter than I'd like. Then I sighed, ate a bag of Cheetos and took a nap." Lol I've done that myself many times.

I know how you feel. We are the same height, and I've been going up and down to the 170 mark for years. I know its hard to cut the carb addiction, but start by minimizing how much of it you eat. I used to be a potato chip connoisseur. That is still my go to snack, along with ice cream, cookies, pizza....mmmm....i think I should stop now... getting cravings. Cut as much of the simple carbs that you can and keep healthier snacks around. Fruit sorbet or a frozen fruit bar instead of ice cream, light popcorn, nuts that are not roasted or salted, and even yummy rice cakes. I am a sucker for the cheddar cheese ones. Dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, etc. Try to keep your main meals as healthy as possible, and switch up your snacks to healthier versions of them. Potatoes are complex carbs, the issue lies in how you prepare them. Avoid using sour cream or butter, and instead make your own version of mashed potatoes with some olive oil and roasted garlic or veggies. You don't need to remove rice from your diet, but instead of eating white rice try eating brown rice, wild rice or quinoa. You're doing great by starting your day off with exercise. Don't let the fact that the gym is closed stop you from working out, instead work out from home. Do some push ups, squats, lunges, sit ups, yoga, and/ or some resistance training.

Tik gave u great advice about posting your online diary here.

I write one down in a journal then post it here online too. It's one thing to see if you eat something unhealthy but its another thing to post it out here for all to see. It makes you more accountable.

Stay motivated, and soon enough you will reach your goals. :)
