Hello everyone!

Hi, my name is Janet, I'm 59 years old, and I’ve struggled with my weight since I was a child. I’ve been on every diet known to man, and lost a good deal of weight, only to regain it after a few months or a year, because - truth be told - I'm a food addict and a compulsive eater. I was taking medication for high cholesterol, and was considered pre-diabetic and was literally killing myself!!

VERY SCARY!!

Since I've learned how to successfully obtain health, I’ve found out that my problem was that I was focusing on losing weight and becoming a “size”, not on getting healthy! And, I was never taught before how to keep the weight off after I got to where I wanted to be. It may sound silly, but if your goal is a number, (whether it's a clothing size or the number of pounds you want to weigh), once you've reached that number, you don't have a goal any longer, and you WILL begin to gain your weight back!!! But .... if your goal is just to be healthy, that's something that will keep you motivated always.

Hoping to make some like-minded friends here!! :grouphug:

Hi Janet, I'm also in my 50s. The reason that the weight loss is working for me this time is because I'm not looking at what I am doing as a diet but as a permanent life style change.
I eat smaller portions and make healthier choices than before and exercise regularly. I have started to find that I enjoy the healthy foods more and have a lot more energy.
Because it's a lifestyle change and not a strict diet it means that when I go out or have people come round then I don't deprive myself of eating what I want but find that I naturally make healthier choices now. It means changing the chip in your head about how you want your life to be.

Read other peoples diaries for inspiration and start one yourself to get plenty of support.
Good luck, you sound ready to do it the right way this time.:D
