Hi there I am 36 and in dire need to loose weight...I have been a constant dieter since 7th grade only mananging success for short peroids of time. I was comfortable with myself before gaining about 60lbs when quiting smoking a couple of years ago...I have managed to take off 20lbs but really need to loose at least 70-90 lbs to be realistically healthy....turned 36 and went all to heck.....am pre diabetic and now have high blood pressuure.......am currently going to ww and doing ok..but unfortunatly i just don't seem to have a shut off valve as i call it. I am curently going to classes for gastric banding....hoping it will help me find that point of satisfaction...am about 4-5 months out before i will be through the hoops you must go through to get to the surgery table.......any input would be greatly appreciated .......am excited to be joining this group....thanks

amy:)

I'm not a big fan of surgical methods to lose weight -i understand they are necessary for some people - but i think the majority of people can do it without surgery or pills if they have their motivation.

If you are being successful on weight watchers - why not stick with that? and learn how to change your eating habits for the rest of your life...

i second what Mal says. I thought about surgery - but the end result is, you can eat now what you have to eat after the surgery and you're gonna loose the same weight - only save yourself $10k

When I started dieting (AGAIN LOL) back in July I found a website forum on lap band and I swer about 10 % were happy with it.The things I read were
constant bad episodes of acid reflex and then you would make a doctor visit to have it ajusted then after that they said eating bad kicked in again and alot of people said waste of money should have gottened the laprascopic gastric bypass in the 1st place. But they said the acid reflex was so bad they were miserable and thats with taking perscription medication for it.

You can do it without I think besides watching your calories and exerscing it takes great support and I have found that here and lost almost 70 lbs that way.I hope you don't turn to surgery for the answer not much to say about it thats positive,Tammy:)

Welcome to the board

I understand the surgical route for people who are morbidly obese, but with a number like 60lbs you shouldnt need to go in for a dangerous surgery that does not change lifestyle habits.

You can do it and change your lifestyle!!

My mother got the lap band about five months ago just when I started to diet again. I have lost almost 50 lbs.. 49.8 lbs to be exact and she has lost about 15 lbs. I don't like the thought of surgery..I was training to be a surgical technologist..it's umm..not fun in the surgery room.

Anyway, welcome!! :)
