You should avoid calories.

Sleep at least 7 hours

Walk or run 3-4 miles a day

Try to get in bed within 11 pm.

Hey hun, eating that few calories is very bad for your body--You're experiencing "starvation mode" where your body clings to fat as it thinks you are trying to starve it. You need to be eating 1200 if you are a girl (at least) and at least 1500 if you are a dude. Anything under is just going to hinder you rather than help.

Go to the diary section of this forum and make a post. Log your food/exercise each day and we can give you feedback to help you improve. Good luck and welcome to WLF.

Also, JKeat--You give terrible advice.

Edit: To expand. You should not "avoid calories". You should use your full allowance of your daily calorie allowance (one that has been worked out to lose a safe and healthy amount of weight per week, never under 1200.) Avoiding calories is saying avoid food, which isn't practical advice. It's changing the way you consume those calories. I don't buy the running/walking thing either..That much exercise is very hard when you are just starting out. you need to find the exercise that suits you, and one that you can fit in to your lifestyle. Obviously walking is good for you but do what you feel you can manage to begin with. 4 miles is hard work when you are overweight!

It's not my opinion to work 3-4 miles a day.Rather,I got it from a specialist. According to him, we should walk at least 10000 steps a day to keep our body fit.

Yes, and people feel bad when they don't get enough calories for their body to function properly. Energy level goes way down and you have a general unhealthy feeling...but when you eat the amount of calories your body needs and eat the right kind of calories...AND do the 10,000 steps, well you'll have a lot of energy and you'll be smiling when you step off the scale :hurray:

"avoid calories" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..................hahahahahahahahahaha...............

Did your specialist give you this advice as well?

Who cares when you sleep. Just make sure you get enough.

No such thing as "starvation mode". People tend to OVEREAT after fasting themselves with very little calories. They gorge themselves and again, blame it on the food or their bodies doing things that make them pout on weight rather than blaming themselves and not being able to keep their mouths shut. Just saying :)

I've read lots about it--can you link me to something that says otherwise?

The secret to speeding up your metabolism is eating 6 small meals a day.
Breakfast is your MOST important, and your most healthiest meal as well. As the day decreases, your meals aren't as healthy. Try to stay away from carbs past 7pm OR 3 hours before bed.

When you don't eat, your body thinks it is starving so the next time you do, it will store it as fat.

Check out bodybuilding.com for some health tips. (I found A LOT of great information there, that a friend referred me to.)

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY! :)

If you posted what you just have on the forums of bodybuilding.com, you would GET FLAMED, told you know nothing and your knowledge in 'broscience' is great. I guarantee you that.

You just posted a link to say starvation mode is a myth.

Here are a couple more:

Let me ask a question. If 'starvation mode' were real, why is it that people in poorer countries, with so little to eat, not putting on weight? From what most people say about 'starvation mode', these people's bodies should be clinging onto EVERYTHING in fear of being in 'starvation mode' yet they are skinny and malnourished. The reason? No such thing as the body 'clinging onto fat for dear life'. Again, people tend to OVEREAT after fasting and then blame their bodies and the food.

I won't speak as if I know a great thing about dieting and starvation mode being a myth or not, because I simply don't know enough.

What I do know is I had a similar reaction when I wanted to start losing weight and immediately tried to cut my calories as low as possible, but really you should use a website like MyFitnessPal to get a calorie intake calculated for your specific stats (height, weight, age, how much you want to lose in a time period, how much exercise, etc.). Once you have that, then you want to get yourself to that each day. Some days you might go over, some days you might not hit it, but you want to average around that intake.

You don't need to kill yourself with exercise. If you're trying to lose weight, add some cardio in each day. An hour of brisk walking (around 3.0-3.5 mph) can be enough. Mix it up so your body doesn't get too used to your exercise routine and adjust. You may want to start with exercise 3 days a week, then up it to 5 as you get better in shape. Try to get some kind of exercise in each day, but if you miss a day, don't beat yourself up over it. You want to also avoid burning yourself out.

And don't just cut yourself off from things you like. That's the quickest way to burn out when you're forcing yourself to eat things you don't like all the time.

Thanks for posting those links, HyunJun... really good explanations for how the "starvation mode" has been blown out of proportion!
