Hey guys,

I've been a yo-yo exerciser for years, and just couldn't find the motivation to keep going.

My main deterrents were:
Told to keep to a strict diet with no alterations
Not enjoying the exercise (Personal Training)
Not liking the repetitive nature (Diet, & PT)
I would throw in the towel if sessions kept being cancelled
I need continual communication from the gym, and my trainer
Lack of self motivation
Over obsessive love of beer.

Basically it's hard to get me to the gym.

In January I lost about 8kgs in 2 weeks, going from 121, to 113. However I gave up due to a short term goal that I had which I didn't reach, and therefore told myself that I failed, putting on what I had lost and more.

However in that January period I found a gym I was happy with, and a trainer who learnt the kind of person I was really quickly. So, I've gone back.

I weighed in on the 27.06.13 @ 122

Then I weighed in on the 04.07.13 @ 119.7. The only change so far being no alcohol from the 01.07.13.
From this date, I started my diet plan, and heavy exercising/PT.

I then weighed in on the 11.07.13 @ 115.5

And am now, as of 20.07.13 @ 110.2 (total loss to date: 11.8kg)

I have a strict diet schedule except for a lunchtime meal (which is usually healthy, but doesn't have to be), 3PT sessions a week, and 4 nights a week by myself.

I'm aiming to be 106kg by 14.08.13, which at the moment seems like a very realistic goal.

Noting my weak spots above, my trainer cancelled twice on me last week, and just forgot to turn up this morning (and this morning really got my down to depression level). I love my trainer, but he doesn't know what organisation is.

I guess i'm joining here to get that added support, so I can get through times that get me down.

Kurt

Welcome to the forum.

Well done on losing 11.8kg. You are doing great.

I hope that the gym folk have "pulled up their socks" and are back once more giving you the support that you pay them for.
I suggest that at times like that you stick to the pattern and go to the gym - even though the trainer is not there... You probably have a good idea what your program consists of so could do much of the work - simply cheering yourself on instead of having them tell you what to do... I would then email the trainer - or phone them up and tell them what you did...

I would be checking the gym schedule and seeing if there are any classes that are worth you doing there... There may well be a number of classes on offer as part of your gym membership which you could do too... At my gym - they are led by a qualified personal trainer - and while that person will not be focusing on you - they will be giving leadership and direction... Alongside other participants - you will be encouraged to keep up so you may find it motivating... Think of it this way - it gives you more personal trainers to get communication and encouragement from...

The more full your exercise timetable is - the less you will be dependant on a personal trainer whose mind sounds like it is temporarily on other things... These people are human - and you do not know what worries he has on his mind... With luck he will be back on form - but everyone gets times when things go wrong.

Keep up the good work with building good exercise and nutritional habits. They say that habits take a few weeks to build... Once you build them up - it does get easier to just keep on doing the same thing out of habit...

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.
