Hello, my name is Mckenna. I'm 20, 5'6", and 215 lbs. As a teenager I had followed the South Beach Diet, lost 40 lbs (went from 180-140) and kept it off for about a year before life problems got in the way and made me lose sight of how important a healthy lifestyle is. I am not happy with the condition of my health as it is and miss how great it felt to be healthy, but I'm starting to realize how hard it is to get myself back to that.

I currently don't have a very large support structure in my life. my family knows of my attempts but seem to be tired of me constantly announcing that I'm trying the same thing. my only local friend is trying to lose weight as well, but she has a different idea of healthy as I do. I don't want to keep trying fad diets, I'm done limiting myself specific food groups as I've learned it always bounces back to bite me in the butt. my boyfriend of one year is supportive of my efforts, but he lives 2500 miles away and doesn't have any need to lose weight, and it's just not the same when you don't have anyone going through the same or similar progress as you.

My goal is to get a steady, healthy lifestyle of healthy, wholesome, unprocessed, unrefined food with daily exercises. I would love to get down to 180 by my birthday (Oct. 1st.), it would be great if I could find some people with similar goals to keep in touch with.

Welcome to the forum. I'm new here as well. Good luck on your journey. I'm no expert but the first thing I changed was my eating habits. I have never done a diet or cut out carbs or anything like that. But I started just eating better. Cut out all soda and beer for right now. Once I get down to my goal weight I will then add at least beer back in (in moderation). But I eat a smaller lunch but I eat food that keeps me fuller longer. And also I have two healthy snacks. One around 10am and one around 4pm. I do workout every day for at least 40 min. The one thing that I have done that has helped me out a lot is on my lock screen on my phone. I have a pic of Hawaii. (Cause that's one of the main reasons I want to loose weight) and my goal weight and what I weigh right now. That way any time I pick up my phone to use it I see where I want to be and where I'm at. It has helped me. I'm a visual person though. But like I said before. Good luck.

Thanks! Eating right is always the first thing I changed, but my first time losing weight I didn't incorporate any additional fitness aside from my normal high school activities, which probably was a big reason why I gained so much so quick once I lost track. I definitely have an easier time with proper nutrition than I do fitness, I've always hated most exercise so I really need to work on improving that and find a work out schedule I can enjoy.
Thanks again for the welcome! I think I'll start up some sort of visual to help as well.

It's funny I'm not a big fan of working out. but i started the insanity program and I started to see results. I just finished up the first month this morning and I need new pants cause mine are now too big. Once I started seeing results it made me want to do it more and push myself. Still when I first put in the disc and start the warm up I'm like crap I don't want to do this. But once I get going and warm up and loosen up I'm like let's do this. Like I said before I'm no expert. I'm just some guy working out in my house telling you want I'm doing.

Why dont you both join San's new challenge that is starting this weekend. The link is in my signature... It should be great for meeting people and getting motivation to eat healthier and adopt some exercise.
