Hello,

My name is Ashley. I'm 19 and in college.
I'm 5'6" and currently weight 179 pounds. I was a very skinny, sickly child. Then in 6th grade, I think it was, I began to gain a lot of weight. For a while I was at 168, and a size 14, then I began exercising and lifting, and got to 154, and was a size 12. It took forever! All summer, and then some. So I stopped, and ballooned up to 188, but I'm still a size 14, which is strange, but I suspect I may have gotten taller, which would help explain it.

Anyhow, right now I'm at 179, and I hope to eventually reach 140, but for now I'm taking my weight loss at 10-20 pounds at a time. So, my goal right now is 160.
It's hard, I'm a little bit of a compulsive eater, especially at night, and I get the urge to just eat and eat as fast as I can until I'm so full my stomach hurts.

I had an episode Monday, but have been doing well since then. Anyway, for now I'm calorie counting, and may add in exercise once I go on Christmas Break.
I just have to remember how wonderful it feels to look at the scale and see that I have gone down another pound. I just have to take it one day at a time, one pound at a time.

Hi!!

Hi, Ashley! I am also 19 and in college! I know exactly how tempting late night snacks are. I have just started on this forum and so far I have gotten a lot of support and great information. Have you tried going to the gym that you have at school? I go to the Co-Rec once a day...I love it! I feel so great about myself when I am finished working out! Going to the school's gym is also nice because it gives you a chance to catch up on great TV shows while working out. I watch Dr. Phil in the gym whenever I can because it helps to take my mind off of the sweat pouring down my face! LOL! Hopefully you will reach your goals! I know we can both do it!

Hi! Welcome to the boards! That binge eating is a real killer, I used to do it (and had the temptation again the other night, not pleasant!). Once you start seeing real progress it becomes easier to resist. If I feel that sensation so badly that I can't resist it, I get the hell out of the house and go for a walk. I don't carry money because that way I can't stop and buy something.

Fortunately I seem to have set up good habits that are starting to dominate those binging urges. Binging is not an unnatural way of eating, in the sense that it's natural for most living things to eat as much as they can when it's available. Look at dogs or cats, if you let them have as much food as they could eat, most of them would become beachball shaped in no time.

Our problem as humans living in first world countries is that food is abundant, and tasty, high calorie food is really cheap and available. All you can fight it with is willpower!

Best of luck for your weight loss goals!
